tawdry
tawdry
Mindy Lawton, one of the women claiming to have had an affair with Tiger Woods is quoted as saying that she and Woods had sex in the house that Tiger and his family live in in Windermere, Florida.
The tawdry description of her relationship does not stop there. Lawton, who is waitress at an Orlando restaurant, has told London's News of the World that she and Woods had sex while Woods' wife, was pregnant.

Seeing movie characters smoke cigarettes increases the risk that Mexican-American teens will try smoking, according to a new study that calls for movies with smoking scenes to receive an R-rating.
It followed 1,328 Mexican-American adolescents, aged 11 to 13, for four years and noted the types of movies they viewed.
At the start of the study, 10 percent of the adolescents had experimented with smoking, compared with 17 percent by the end of the study. The more smoking scenes they had seen in movies, the more likely they were to experiment with smoking.
"Exposure to movie smoking predicted smoking onset even after controlling for several established risk factors, like exposure to friends who smoke," study author Anna Wilkinson, an assistant professor in the epidemiology department at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, said in an American Association for Cancer Research news release.

TOKYO, Dec 3 (Reuters) - Shares of Japan Tobacco (2914.T) gained the most in 13 months on Thursday as investors were relieved by a report that the government would hike taxes on cigarettes by less than expected.
The Japanese government plans to raise the tax on tobacco by a few yen per cigarette, Kyodo news agency reported, a much smaller increase than the 10-20 yen anticipated by some market participants.
"It's positive if the tax hike is only 2-3 yen per cigarette, as there have been concerns about a much heftier hike, like pushing up prices to 500 yen a pack or more," said Takeshi Osawa, senior fund manager at Norinchukin Zenkyoren Asset Management.

Feed your brain!
feed your brain
From study groups to practice tests, everyone has a method to prepare for exams. And with just a few short weeks between mid-terms and finals, efficiency is key. While nothing replaces proper revision, other factors influence how well your brain performs and retains information. The Guide to Colleges and Universities has compiled tips and tricks to help you work with your brain, not against it:
Move toward the (natural) light.

Feed your brain. Despite all the talk of "brain foods," no single food will make you smarter, says Doug Cook, a registered dietician and nutritionist at St. Michael's Hospital, and co-author with Carol Ann Rinzler of Nutrition for Canadians for Dummies (2008).
Good eating habits fuel the brain and boost concentration, a great help when you're studying or taking exams, he says.
"Eating regularly will help learning," the dietician says. "Trying to study when hungry is not only distracting, but it literally starves the brain," he adds, a warning to dieters or those with erratic eating patterns.
Fuel your brain with carbohydrates, preferably produce and whole grains, and lean protein, including chicken, fish and beans. Before a test, eat a light meal to keep your energy up. Anything too heavy might make you feel sluggish, Cook says.
Caffeine is fine in small doses, as is a celebratory drink, "but no one needs to be told how being a bit hung over will negatively affects one's scholastic aspirations."

debar
The FDA would gain authority to debar device clinical trial researchers convicted of felonies under a bill introduced in the House. The Strengthening of FDA Integrity Act, H.R. 3932, was introduced by Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) and has seven co-sponsors. The bill also would require the FDA to send annual debarment reports to Congress and would reduce the time it has to debar a researcher from five years to one.
(FDA News. November 30, 2009.)
