OG

Dan Sullivan supports Dan Sullivan against Dan Sullivan in Alaska’s US Senate election, says a former Alaskan mayor who recently backed the race’s Republican incumbent over a challenger sharing their name.

That development provided another of multiple absurd elements to Dan S Sullivan’s campaign for a third term in the US Senate, which – beside Mary Peltola, a former Alaska Democratic congresswoman – has drawn opposition from Dan J Sullivan.

Dan J Sullivan emerged from an 18 August primary to join a four-candidate field rounded out by Dan S Sullivan, Peltola and one other contender. His presence in the field for the general election during the 3 November midterms has prompted accusations that he is a Democratic plant aiming to draw enough votes away from Dan J Sullivan – whose name was positioned consecutively to him on the primary ballot – so that Peltola can win.
(Ramon Antonias Vargas. Ex-mayor Dan Sullivan supports incumbent Dan Sullivan’s Senate bid against third Dan Sullivan. The Guardian. August 24, 2026.)

Dan Sullivan supports Dan Sullivan against Dan Sullivan

“As the OG Dan Sullivan, I urge Alaskans to vote for [Senator] Daniel S Sullivan”

Trump, though, was not the only Republican politico to come out swinging for Dan S Sullivan’s re-election bid on the day of the primary, in which Peltola finished first. Another who came out in favor of the incumbent was Dan A Sullivan, the mayor of Anchorage, Alaska, for six years beginning in 2009.

“As the OG Dan Sullivan, I urge Alaskans to vote for [Senator] Daniel S Sullivan,” he also wrote. “He’s been great for Alaska.”

Dan A Sullivan’s statement of support for Dan S Sullivan, the senator, at the expense of Dan J Sullivan invoked a colloquial term meaning original. It was unclear if he staked the claim of being the original because, at 75, he was older than Dan S Sullivan, 61, and Dan J Sullivan, 70, a retired schoolteacher and US Forest Service employee with no prior political experience.
(ibid.)

someone or something that is an original or originator and especially one that is highly respected or regarded

original gangster

CNN, of course, is now Donald Trump's least favorite network, and one of several networks that were initially barred from White House press briefings with Sean Spicer. CNN is also the original gangsta (OG) "fake news" organization, according to President Trump, even though CNN is very much a real and largely respected global news organization.

ALPR

Automatic License Plate Reader

Flock cameras are automatic license plate readers, or ALPRs. There are other ALPRs in the market, but Flock cameras are some of the most well-known ALPRs.

The cameras, however, capture more than just license plate information.

Flock Safety defines their cameras as: "a license plate reader camera built to identify vehicle details that may help generate investigative leads. That includes the license plate, along with attributes like make, model, color, and other visible characteristics. Flock cameras are not general-purpose surveillance systems designed to identify people," according to Flock Safety's website.
(Ernesto Centeno Araujo. What are Flock cameras? Why have they caused a stir in California? Desert Sun. July 22, 2026.)

Flock Camera

OTT

Some details are surfacing from inside Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s mammoth Madison Square Garden nuptials – and they’re less than glowing reviews.

The wedding, attended by everyone from Steven Spielberg to Emma ‘Baby Spice’ Bunton to former Modern Family actor Eric Stonestreet, was “a bit of a s*** show,” one source told TMZ.

Another guest, also speaking anonymously, described the OTT wedding celebration to the Daily Mail as “tacky” and said guests faced long waits and queues for both food and drink.
(Nick Bond. Celeb chaos at Taylor Swift’s ‘tacky’ mega-wedding. News.com.au. July 7, 2026.)

 the OTT wedding celebration

Over The Top

NACHO

NACHO

Not A Chance Hormuz Opens

You’ve heard of the TACO trade. Now there’s a new Wall Street acronym borrowed from the pages of a Tex-Mex menu.

Enter NACHO, or “Not A Chance Hormuz Opens.” The idea is that the all-important shipping route for global energy supplies will remain effectively shut until the economic costs of its closure—including higher oil prices and accelerating inflation—start piling up.
(The NACHO Trade Is Taking Shape on Wall Street. Wall Street Journal. May 11, 2026.)

NIMBY

The national fight against data centers recently came to my neighborhood. Like dandelions in the spring, signs proclaiming opposition to a massive development that includes a $10 billion Meta data center have popped up in my neighbors’ lawns.

My neighbors’ protest is focused on plans to pump as much as 25 million gallons of water a day out of a reservoir that serves as a main source of drinking water for Indianapolis and its suburbs, largely to serve the business interests of Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and friends.

Those concerns aren’t unique. Americans across the political spectrum have objected to the construction of data centers because of the vast amounts of water, electricity and land they consume.
(Tim Swarens. We can't trust Big Tech to be responsible with data centers | Opinion. USA Today. April 19, 2026.)

A recent report by Data Center Watch found that residents and activists in multiple states were successful in delaying or stopping data center projects worth a combined $64 billion between May 2024 and March 2025.

But thousands of other data centers have been built or are planned across the United States.

In Indianapolis, protests against a planned data center took a dangerous turn when shots were fired on April 6 at the home of a city-county council member who voted in favor of the project. The councilman, Ron Gibson, said he found a note saying “no data centers” after the shooting. Gibson and his 8-year-old son were at home when bullets shattered a glass storm door.

Thankfully, the great majority of NIMBY (not in my backyard) activism is peaceful.

Although I am generally a YIMBY – economic growth is an essential tool for improving our quality of life – I do pause when it comes to data centers.

My hesitancy about the projects hinges less on concerns about water and electricity and more on the lack of long-term return on investment for communities.
(ibid.)

NIMBY

で、これは"not in my backyard"の頭文字を取ったものです。

WMD

Plunging into war followed Trump’s signature style: he negotiated in bad faith, turned to bombing when the sides were making “significant progress”, according to Oman’s foreign minister, was heedless of international law, and shut out congressional consultation. He offered as his imperative Iranian “imminent threats”, which the Pentagon briefed congressional staffers after Operation Epic Fury began was simply without basis in fact. There was no intelligence suggesting an “imminent threat”. Where’s the WMD?
(Sidney Blumenthal. Trump has cornered himself with his war in Iran. The Guardian. March 3, 2026.)

Weapons of Mass Destruction

stay-at-home mom

Being a stay-at-home mom has its perks. No work, for one thing. And, once the kids are a little older, it tends to get easier and easier, meaning you might even get to sleep in from time to time as a SAHM. But the one thing some moms and wives should consider with this role is the retirement benefits. Or, rather, the lack thereof. One mom, Courtney, whose TikTok video was shared on Reddit says in her post that she didn’t plan for a divorce and now, financially, she is in a pretty tight spot.
(Chrissy Bobic. Financially Vulnerable SAHM Says Husband ‘Cut Her Off’ Amid Divorce. December 31, 2025.)

SAHD (stay-at-home dad)?

President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced a multipronged effort aimed at lowering drug costs in the United States, including the creation of a “TrumpRx” direct-to-consumer website where Americans can buy medicine at discounted prices and a sweeping deal with Pfizer to reduce the prices of many of its products.

Pfizer is the first drugmaker to voluntarily agree to all the demands Trump laid out in a July letter to pharmaceutical company CEOs. The president signaled others might soon follow.

Pfizer will sell drugs to Medicaid and set prices of new drugs at “Most Favored Nation” levels, the lowest price made available in peer countries. It will sell many of its primary care medicines and some specialty brand-name drugs at a 50% savings, on average, at TrumpRx, the company said. And it will expand its domestic manufacturing, while receiving a three-year reprieve on certain tariffs on pharmaceutical imports.
(Trump announces ‘TrumpRx’ site for discounted drugs and deal with Pfizer to lower prices. CNN. September 30, 2025.)

TrumpRx.gov

A woman’s boyfriend didn’t tell her he quit his job — and then accused her of being unsupportive when she didn’t want to pay the full rent they once split.

The frustrated girlfriend took to the r/AITA_WIBTA_PUBLIC Reddit forum to vent about her situation — which has since been deleted.
(Fabiana Buontempo. Selfish boyfriend secretly quits job — and expects girlfriend to financially support them: ‘Get rid of that man-child’. New York Post. August 10, 2025.)

The OP had to learn of her boyfriend’s impulsive decision to quit his job from their mutual friend.
(ibid.)

…the original poster started to notice that her man was home more than usual, especially during times when he should’ve been at work.

PSA

A California traveler has received a flurry of sympathy online after chastising an aisle seat occupant for refusing to get up so she could use the bathroom.

“You just gotta get up,” the user — who goes by @deetsontheeats — declared in the impromptu airline etiquette PSA taking off online.
(Ben Cost. Airplane passenger delivers furious PSA following seatmate’s inconsiderate move: ‘You can’t hold the row captive’. February 18, 2025.)

furious PSA

the impromptu airline etiquette PSA

Public Service Announcement

an announcement made for the good of the public

The FDNY and FDNY Foundation are urging New Yorkers to never block fire hydrants with parked cars in a newly released Public Service Announcement (PSA).

It’s illegal to park within 15 feet of a fire hydrants. Seconds matter in an emergency, and blocking a hydrant could delay firefighters when responding.
(In new PSA, the FDNY reminds New Yorkers to never block fire hydrants. FDNY Foundation.)

WASHINGTON - Mike Gill, a married father of three who was also a member of former President Donald Trump's administration, has died. He was shot during a deadly carjacking rampage in Washington, D.C. last Monday night.
(Shomari Stone. Mike Gill, former Trump official, dies days after being shot in DMV carjacking spree. Fox 5 DC. February 3, 2024.)

DMV carjacking spree

DC traffic: Pro-Palestine protest causing lane closures and morning delays across DMV
(Fox 5 DC. February 1, 2024.)

a term referring to the geographical area of DC, Maryland and Virginia, used by people who are from Maryland or Virginia and wish they were from DC.
(Urban Dictionary)

emcee

CEO Elon Musk unveiled the long-awaited Tesla Cybertruck at a live event at its Gigafactory in Austin, Texas.

The futuristic-looking Cybertruck is the first electric vehicle Tesla offers that isn’t a sedan marks the company’s entry into the growing EV pickup market, joining rivals like Ford and Rivian. One advantage Elon Musk promises the Cybertruck has over the competition? It is bullet proof.

Musk, who emceed the event, hyped the flatbed, which is over 6 feet long, towing capacity of 11,000 pounds and windows that can repel live bullets.
(Eric Revell. Tesla Cybertruck deliveries begin after long delays. FOX Business. November 30, 2023.)

CEO Elon Musk unveiled the long-awaited Tesla Cybertruck at a live event

Musk, who emceed the event…

Master of Ceremonies

"kayo"は、K.O.

ICEing

ICEing

A Georgia family called 911 earlier this summer after a staffer for Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm used a nonelectric vehicle to hog the only open EV charging station outside a local Walmart while the Biden administration official was still en route.

Granholm, 64, was on a four-day road trip from North Carolina to Tennessee, promoting green energy with a traveling caravan of electric and nonelectric vehicles, when a member of her advance team used a gasoline-powered car to reserve a charging station for her, according to NPR, angering at least one family who had been waiting in line.

The inconsiderate practice is known as “ICEing” — a reference to the internal-combustion engines inside gasoline-powered vehicles — and is subject to a $100 fine in Washington, DC, where the Department of Energy is headquartered, but it is not illegal in Grovetown, where the June incident occurred.
(Victor Nava. Cops called after Jennifer Granholm staffer uses gas-powered car to hold EV charging spot for Biden energy secretary. New York Post. September 12, 2023.)

Internal Combustion Engine

AWOL

The American-led U.N. Command in South Korea said Monday a conversation was started with Pyongyang about a U.S. soldier who ran into North Korea last week across, amidst nuclear-submarine movements in the area.

“None of us know where this is going to end,” a British lieutenant general and deputy commander at U.N. Command, Andrew Harrison, said during a news conference in Seoul.

Harrison refused to give more details on a timeframe, or whether the conversation was constructive with the North Koreans, citing the sensitivity of the discussions. He also declined to comment on the AWOL Pvt. Travis King’s condition.
(UN Command confirms contact with N. Korea over AWOL U.S. soldier. i24 News. July 24, 2023.)

absent without leave

A Tesco sales assistant who had worked at the supermarket for 26 years was unfairly dismissed after she was “erroneously” declared absent without leave while she was on holiday, a tribunal has ruled.

The London South Croydon tribunal found Julie Churcher was unable to respond to the letters inviting her to disciplinary hearings, nor could she appeal her eventual dismissal, because she was away.
(Elizabeth Howlett. Customer sales assistant sacked for being AWOL when she was actually on holiday was unfairly dismissed, tribunal rules. People Management Magazine. July 24, 2023.)

A DIY health check for the middle-aged to carry out in their own home is set to be rolled out from next spring.

Fifteen million adults aged 40 to 74 across England will be eligible for the NHS's new digital MOT.

Patients will be invited to complete a health assessment on their phone or laptop, providing answers to questions about their weight, height, diet, alcohol intake and exercise.
(Emily Craig. 'Midlife MOT' DIY test kits to be sent to all over-40s under huge shake-up of NHS scheme. Daily Mail. June 29, 2023.)

MOT

Ministry of Transportation

Measurements, Observations, Testing

Poets day

Hundreds of UK companies are resorting to a new tactic to lure and retain workers from Generation Z amid one of the most competitive jobs market in decades – an early finish on Fridays.

The perk has been targeted more heavily at junior roles, with more than 75% of those advertised aimed at staff on salaries of between £20,000 to £40,000, suggesting employers are trying to target and compete for Gen Z as they enter the workforce.

The trend will breathe new life into the so-called Poets day tradition – an acronym for “Piss off early, tomorrow’s Saturday” – where workers punch out by 3:30pm to begin their weekends on Friday afternoon.
(Kalyeena Makortoff. UK firms try to lure Gen Z workers with ‘early finish Fridays’. The Guardian. April 6, 2023.)

the so-called Poets day tradition

“Piss off early, tomorrow’s Saturday”

The Philippines is a strong market for human resource development, with the median age at 25.3 years, and a large number of digital transformation professionals with Japanese-language skill.

This new regional near-shore-location and off-shore-location digital transformation (DX) center was established in Cebu after other launches in China, India, and Manila. Cebu City has emerged as world's number one emerging outsourcing destination due to its talented pool of professionals.
(IBM Consulting launches new Japan Innovation Hub in Cebu City to meet rapidly growing business demand. Yahoo! Finance. February 27, 2023.)

Digital transformation(デジタルトランスフォーメーション)

DX(あるいは、Dx)

xfer

DOA

Corporate leaders who backed President Joe Biden in the 2020 election conveyed deep skepticism that the so-called billionaire's tax Biden proposed in his State of the Union address this week would ever become law.

The plan is "DOA and stupid to boot," billionaire investor Leon Cooperman told CNBC in an interview. Cooperman says he voted for Biden in 2020, but he accused Democrats of deliberately misleading people about how the billionaire tax proposal would work.
(Biden's billionaire tax is 'dead on arrival' in Congress, top Wall Street backers and Democratic strategists say. CNBC. February 9, 2023.)

DOA and stupid to boot

dead on arrival

They try, they keep trying, but still there is no pulse. Finally, they load the woman into the ambulance and head for Memorial Hermann. She will be DOA - dead on arrival.
(Houston Chronicle, 2002)

The billionaire tax proposal is "completely dead on arrival," said Charles Myers, a 2020 bundler for Biden's presidential campaign and the chairman of Signum Global, an investment advisory firm.

"Those tax increases will never get through a Republican House," added Myers. "Probably not even through a Democratic Senate."
(ibid.)

After I finished, I was all excited and proud of myself. My first computer! I did it myself! I excitedly plugged it in. I pressed power and... nothing. My husband pointed out that I had forgotten to attach power to the hard drives. So I plugged those in and tried again. Press the power button and... nothing again! I was really upset, thinking I had a bad motherboard, or my parts were DOA, but noticed yet another cord I had overlooked.
(Houston Chronicle, 2011)

PMQ

Liz Truss has told right-wing Tory MPs her tax U-turns were "painful," as she continues to try and shore up her support within the party.

The PM told Eurosceptic backbenchers she was still committed to boosting growth through economic reforms, No 10 sources said.

She has been meeting MPs to appeal for support, with her authority undermined after she abandoned flagship tax cuts.

She will appear at PMQs for the first time since the U-turns later.

This is only the third time since taking office that Ms Truss will face PMQs and it will be a crucial test of her leadership.
(Paul Seddon. Tax U-turns were painful, Liz Truss tells Tory MPs. BBC News. October 18, 2022.)

Prime Minister’s Questions

Prime Minister's Questions (PMQs) in the Commons Chamber is a ticketed event which takes place every Wednesday at 12 noon. Tickets are free of charge and are available only to UK residents, who should contact their Member of Parliament or a Member of the House of Lords.

PDA

rare royal PDA

知っていたのは、携帯端末を意味するPDA(Personal Data Appliance)でしたので、戸惑ったという訳です。

A newly released royal portrait of King Charles with Camilla, the Queen Consort, alongside Prince William and Kate Middleton shows both couples engaged in subtle public displays of affection (PDA).

The photograph, taken by long-time royal photographer Chris Jackson, depicts Charles along with his eldest son and their wives, and was shared by the official royal family Instagram account on Saturday.

PDAs by royals are not officially restricted, but it is rare to see them engaging in tactile moments with significant others. Instead, most keep to an unwritten rule, preferring to maintain a healthy distance on official business.
(Maria Noyen. A new portrait of King Charles, Camilla, William, and Kate Middleton contains rare royal PDA. Insider. Oct 2, 2022.)

public displays of affection

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, who were married for 73 years, famously followed the no-PDA rule and were rarely ever seen holding hands.

But on closer inspection of the new portrait, there are signs that both couples are actually engaging in a PDA. Charles' right arm is looped under Camilla's left arm, and appears to be resting on her back.

Similarly, Kate's right arm seems to be gently placed behind William's back, while he clasps his hands together.
(ibid.)
