A man who allegedly raped a woman at knifepoint after attacking her has been arrested, police said.
Nickolos Samaroo, 21, of Queens, was allegedly inside an apartment on 101st Avenue in Jamaica around 3 a.m. on Nov. 9 when he punched and kicked a 39-year-old woman until he knocked her out, the NYPD said.
(NY Man Accused of Raping Woman at Knifepoint Arrested: Police. NBC New York. November 28, 2018.)
at gunpoint
at swordpoint
at spearpoint
at riflepoint
Historians believe those settlers were descended from fewer than 100 families who fled Mexico in the 1600s after they escaped the Spanish Inquisition. They were Jews who converted to Catholicism at swordpoint.
(Denver Post, 2003)
Guards drove them at spearpoint down the steps into the lower bailey.
(Rod Garcia y Robertson. Strongbow. 1999.)
It was that of a 24-year-old sharecropper, wife and mother, who was kidnapped at riflepoint by seven men, driven deep into the woods and attacked.
(Atlanta Journal Constitution, 2010.)

― check in on
After struggling with growing numbers of parents in school cafeterias, the Darien school system said parents and guardians would no longer be welcome to visit with their children during lunch at the town’s elementary schools.
The decision has stirred strong emotions in Darien, a wealthy shoreline community that prides itself on its high-performing public schools. While some parents said it was time to stop a disruptive practice, others have protested at town meetings and in online forums that the change has deprived them of cherished time to check in on their children and model good social behavior.
(Michael Melia. A Connecticut town banned parents from its school lunchrooms — and many are not happy. Associated Press. November 28, 2018.)
the change has deprived them of cherished time to check in on their children
Rodriguez was a good daughter to her mother and father, calling regularly to check in on them, Rached said. She was one of five siblings.
(Boston Globe, 2017)

schlub
What’s the point of nabbing a reservation at a hot New York restaurant during the holiday season if you get stuck at the bathroom-adjacent table, sniffing eau de urine and bleach all night long?
Although the top seat in every house varies, in general, the most coveted seats are the “display tables” — those immediately visible to people just walking in, but far away enough from the front door that there’s no draft.
(Melissa Malamut. How to score the best table in a restaurant every time. New York Post. November 27, 2018.)
“Regardless of how you made the reservation, I’m still not putting you at a prominent table unless you are dressed well or extravagantly and look the part,” Woody says.
The same goes at Delmonico’s: You don’t necessarily need a jacket and tie at the buttoned-up spot, but you aren’t getting prioritized if you look like a schlub. Majstrovic suggests checking a restaurant’s website for the dress code, or, if you aren’t very internet-savvy, calling the restaurant in advance to ask.
(ibid.)
A person regarded as clumsy, stupid, or unattractive
(American Heritage Dictionary)

guffaw
Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) laughingly repeated sexist jokes as the keynote speaker at a 2011 Mississippi Farm Bureau convention as the audience guffawed in a recently unearthed video.
It’s the latest controversy to hit the candidate on the eve of a special election as President Donald Trump stumped for her in Mississippi on Monday evening.
(Mary Papenfuss. GOP Candidate Cindy Hyde-Smith Repeated Sexist Jokes At 2011 Convention, Video Shows. Huffington Post. November 26, 2018.)
a loud or boisterous burst of laughter
(Merriam-Webster Dictionary)

high street
Shoppers in Britain were poised to carry on splashing the cash into Cyber Monday, with some forecasts suggesting they planned to spend more than £7bn across Black Friday and the online shopping day.
Millions of bargain hunters are expected to go online on Monday to take advantage of generous bargains, dealing a further blow to the struggling high street as the Christmas shopping bonanza takes off.
(Rebecca Smithers. Cyber Monday to take UK's weekend sales splurge over £7bn. The Guardian. November 26, 2018.)
“High street”
