The family of late comedian and film star Chris Farley has filed a federal lawsuit against Trek Bicycle for naming its fat-tired bikes Farley, alleging the Wisconsin-based bike company misappropriated Farley's name and is profiting on his "fat guy" brand of comedy.
Chris Farley was born and raised in Madison, about 30 miles (50 kilometers) from Waterloo, where Trek is based. Fat bikes have grown in popularity because their wider-than-typical tires allow riders to ride across terrain that would be difficult for other types of bikes, such as sand or snow.
(Chris Farley's family sues Trek over name of fat-tired bikes. CBS News. June 6, 2018.)
the Wisconsin-based bike company misappropriated Farley's name and is profiting on his "fat guy" brand of comedy
misappropriate

NEW DELHI -- Increasingly aware of the scope of plastic pollution, governments in more than 60 countries have introduced levies and bans to combat single-use plastic waste, according to U.N. Environment, an agency of the United Nations.
"A growing number of governments are taking action and demonstrating that all nations, whether rich or poor, can become global environmental leaders," Erik Solheim, the agency's head, said in a report released Tuesday about sustainable solutions to single-use plastics.
With its release timed for U.N. World Environment Day, the report noted that rules limiting the use of plastic bags had decreased their use in places such as Morocco, Rwanda and parts of China, sometimes significantly.
(Over 60 countries have introduced bans, fees to cut single-use plastic waste. CBS News. June 5, 2018.)

obesogen
With 26% of adults classified as obese in the UK in 2016, the hunt for causes and solutions to expanding waistlines is on. While public health messages have focused largely on the food we eat, some scientists suspect there is another factor at play: substances being dubbed as “obesogens” – found in our packaging, household goods and furnishings that might affect our hormones and the buildup of fat in the body.
(The truth about obesogens: can dust and chemicals make you fat? The Guardian. May 22, 2018.)
Bruce Blumberg, a biology professor at the University of California, Irvine, coined the term “obesogen” in 2006 when he discovered that tin-based compounds known as organotins predisposed laboratory mice to gain weight.

the Resolute desk
Such a photograph would, it is fair to assume, have been beyond the most delirious, hallucinatory imaginings of a tropical fever patient five years ago. Donald Trump sits at the Resolute desk in the Oval Office with hands folded and a broad grin. To his right, dressed in black, stands an unsmiling Kim Kardashian West, a reality TV superstar catapulted to fame a decade ago by a sex tape.
“‘I broke the Internet.’ ‘I broke the country!’” parodied Comedy Central’s the Daily Show in response. The journalist Tom Gara of BuzzFeed News tweeted: “It’s amazing that the most powerful person in the world is just taking casual meetings with Trump like this.” And as preparations continue for talks with the North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, the NBC correspondent Peter Alexander posted: “The other Kim summit.”
(David Smith. Trump goes it alone: running the White House not like a president, but a CEO. The Guardian. June 3, 2018.)
the Resolute desk
HMS Resolute

rhabdomyolysis
A Texas teen was reportedly diagnosed with a life-threatening illness after hitting the gym too hard.
Jared Shamburger, 17, said he first started feeling “super” sore last week after lifting weights for 90 minutes at a Houston-area gym, news station KTRK reported.
“Everything hurt,” Shamburger said. “It hurt to the touch. It was swollen.”
The teen, who recently joined the gym, said he was trying to “go hard fast” to compete with his dad and older brother, both of whom had been into bodybuilding for years.
“The mama bear in me kind of took over and I called the pediatrician and said, ‘I really think my son has rhabdo,'” mom Judy Shamburger said, referring to rhabdomyolysis.
Her suspicions turned out to be right. The teen was hospitalized for five days with the life-threatening condition.
(Jackie Salo. Teen diagnosed with deadly illness from working out too hard. New York Post. May 31, 2018.)
rhabdomyolysis
