The world has been plunged into a cyber-security crisis, known as “Black October,” which exposed how vulnerable much of the world’s online infrastructure is.
Major security incidents, hacks and flaws across the globe have shown how easily online data stored by governments, companies and individuals can be hacked.
The main concern is a “vulnpocalypse” a term used by experts to describe a backlog of weaknesses growing faster than defenders can assess and fix them.
(Megan Palin. ‘Black October’ exposes how criminals use AI to cause real-world chaos — but you can protect yourself. New York Post. October 27, 2026.)
vulnpocalypse
The term Vulnpocalypse is increasingly being used to describe the surge in vulnerability discovery driven by generative AI and advanced security analysis models. AI-assisted research is dramatically accelerating the identification of Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs), uncovering flaws that traditional methods may have missed for years.
(Eddie Roe. What is the "Vulnpocalypse" and What Does It Mean for the Mainframe? IBM.com. September 9, 2026.)
