snowplow parenting

The great college admissions bribery scandal of 2019 reminded us how disastrous over-parenting can be.

We've all heard of helicopter parenting, but the concept has elevated to lawnmower or snowplow parenting. The parenting styles all generally mean the same thing – moms and dads who are over-involved, hovering over their kids and clearing out any obstacles they may face.

A shocking poll by The New York Times and Morning Consult found that 76% of parents reminded their adult children of deadlines they need to meet and 74% made appointments for them.

Parents naturally want to set their kids up for success, but even those with the best intentions could actually be having the opposite effect.

What Lori Loughlin, Felicity Huffman and 33 other parents are accused of doing to get their kids into elite colleges was illegal, but the case also highlights the dangers of snowplow parenting.

snowplow parenting
