米国の複数の有名大学での不正入学スキャンダルが報道されています。

日本でも医学部入試を巡る不正が報道されたのがつい先日でしたが、やはりアメリカでもあるんですねぇ。

人気テレビドラマに出演する女優は2人の娘を入学させるために50万ドルものお金を払ったらしいですが、保護者と大学側の間に立って裏口入学をアレンジする組織が暗躍しているようです。


Federal authorities have charged nearly 50 people for participating in a $25 million nationwide college admissions cheating scheme, according to court documents unsealed in Boston on Tuesday.

The actress Lori Loughlin, who is known for her role in Full House, allegedly arranged with her husband to pay a bribe of $500,000 to have their two daughters designated as recruits for the USC crew team, even though the two daughters did not participate in the sport, according to the charging documents.

女優は有名デザイナーの夫と共に起訴され、有罪が確定。そのために出演しているドラマシリーズからは降板せざるを得ない状況になったようです。

“career suicide”という表現が目に留まりました。

「キャリア（仕事での）自殺」が直訳でしょうが、意味するところはキャリアを棒に振ってしまった、ということでしょう。

国内ではコカイン使用で検挙されたミュージシャンが話題ですが、こちらも“career suicide”に違いありません。
