男性諸君はご注意あれ？！

浮気というものはいつかはバレるものです。最近ではSNSでの行動分析（SNS forensicsというらしいです ）により浮気の発覚につながることもあるそうです。

恋人が最近何かつれないと思っていたら自分以外の特定の女性へのSNS上のコメントが多いことがわかりました。SNSを公開にしているとか、していないとか、そういう細かいことは分かりませんが、とにかくばれるときにはばれるということでしょうか。


Rebbekkah didn't know that her boyfriend, Justin Matias (also from Brooklyn) was seeing other women. But when he started spending only one or two days a week with her, she knew the 25-year-old music producer she loved wasn't everywhere he said he was.

What tipped Rebbekkah off to Matias' shenanigans were his responses to women's comments. "At first, I didn't mind women commenting on his [social media networks]," says Rebbekkah. "But after a while, he was too quick to respond — and it was the same girls all the time commenting."

さて、上記の引用文中に、


shenanigans


という見慣れない単語が出てきます。これは、


いたずら、悪ふざけ


という意味だそうです。言い訳にならないかもしれませんが、男のちょっとした浮気心、みたいな意味でここでは使われているのでしょう。

"shenanigan(s)"の語源は「語源不詳」とされていますが、


アイルランド語で"fox"を意味するsionnach（狡猾な動物としてのイメージからでしょうか）に由来するという説、

スペイン語で“だましの手口”を意味するcharranadaに由来するという説、

ドイツ語で密売人が悪知恵の意味合いで使う隠語Schenigeleiに由来するという説、


などがあるそうです。
