日本の国会議員が議場で居眠りをしているのはよく見かける光景です。高い給与を貰って居眠りとは・・・。マスコミの好餌になっています。

トランプ大統領が記者会中、目を閉じたり、うつらうつらしている様子が撮影され、SNSで拡散しているという記事を読みました。

カリフォルニア州知事のニューソム氏は"Dozy Don"と揶揄、かつてバイデン前大統領を"Sleepy Joe"と腐したトランプ氏にはブーメランのようになりました。

そのバイデン政権で報道官を務めたジェン・サキ氏のコメントが記事で引用されています。

という部分がありますが、"on the nose"というフレーズが出てきます。

このフレーズにはいくつかの意味があるようです。手元にある英和辞典にはこの意味を載せていないようなのですが、Collin’s Cobuild Dictionary of Idiomsには、

If you describe someone or something as on the nose, you mean that they are considered to be unpleasant or offensive.

とあり、

不愉快である、不快感を催す、けしからん

という意味で使われているようです。そして、オーストラリア英語の表現であるとの補足説明があります。

もしかしてサキ氏の出自がオーストラリアかもと思ってチェックしてみましたがそうではありませんでした。

日本語で「鼻に付く」という表現がありますが、それに近い感じでしょうか。
