Presidential candidate Julian Castro is often mistaken for his identical twin brother, Joaquin, but now there’s a whisker of a difference between the two.

The 44-year-old siblings travel together on the campaign trail, where Julian, a former federal housing secretary mayor of San Antonio, Texas, is running for the Democratic nomination with the help of top adviser Joaquin, a US representative.

Reporters were thrown off by the pair at last month’s Democratic presidential debate in Miami, when the brothers entered the media room afterward in similar suits.

双子のお話ですね。同性の双子の場合、どっちがどっちだか見分けがつかない、ということはよくあることです。

話題になっているのは、アメリカ、テキサス州の民主党員であるJulian Castro氏と、双子の兄弟であるJoaquin Castro氏です。

記事で見る両氏の顔はそっくりですが、Julian氏は民主党の大統領選候補に立候補しているところ、メディアでの写真の取り違えが発生したそうです。

そこで、Joaquin氏の方が髭を伸ばすことで「差別化」を図った、というものです。

記事の冒頭で、

と出てきますが、これは記事で話題になっている髭（whisker）にかけたしゃれですね。

"whisker"にはもちろん髭の意味がありますが、引用部分のように、"a whisker of..."というフレーズになると、少量の、僅かな差の、という意味で用いられます。

“A whisker”は髭の毛の一本を指すので、このフレーズは強意的に用いられて、紙一重の差、間一髪、といった意味合いで用いられます。
