whirl

"whirl"という単語は渦を巻くこと、旋回運動や回転を意味しますが、アメリカ英語の口語表現では、

試み、試行、ちょっと試してみること

という意味があります。

"attempt"や"try"とほぼ同義ということになりますので、

give it a whirl

というようなフレーズでよく用いられます。
