on this side of the pond

Typically this weekend, golf fans on this side of the pond wake up extra early, watch the British Open, then hit the course.
(Houston Chronicle. 2008.)

Merriam Websterでも、

sometimes used with the to refer informally or facetiously to the Atlantic Ocean

"on this side of the pond"と対称的に、

on the other side of the pond

He’s best known for his role as Jay Cartwright in The Inbetweeners but in real life James Buckley is less of an annoying teenager and more of a wannabe mod.

But it seems his look just doesn’t quite work on the other side of the pond as the actor stood out like a sore thumb at the Sundance Film Festival on Monday.
(Fay Strang. James Buckley’s mod look doesn’t quite translate in the US… as he looks out of place in a parka at Sundance Film Festival. Daily Mail. January 22, 2013.)

James Buckly
