いわゆる「専業主婦」のことを英語では、

stay-at-home mom

略して、SAHM、というそうです。ご存知だったでしょうか？

Being a stay-at-home mom has its perks. No work, for one thing. And, once the kids are a little older, it tends to get easier and easier, meaning you might even get to sleep in from time to time as a SAHM. But the one thing some moms and wives should consider with this role is the retirement benefits. Or, rather, the lack thereof. One mom, Courtney, whose TikTok video was shared on Reddit says in her post that she didn’t plan for a divorce and now, financially, she is in a pretty tight spot.

時代遅れ、時代錯誤と言われそうですが、夫は外で働き、妻は家庭で家を守る、子育てに、食事に、掃除に・・・、という役割分担の中で、「専業主婦」はある種のステレオタイプとしても、言葉としても定着して来ました。

では、専業主夫は？英語にするとSAHD (stay-at-home dad)？

ネットで検索するとSAHDという言葉もあるようですが、夫とも妻とも特定しない、"stay-at-home parent"という表現が一般的になっているようです。
