テスラCEOのイーロン・マスク氏が政府効率化省（DOGE）の仕事を減らし、テスラの経営に注力する意向を表明したようです。

5月にはDOGEの仕事から退くとの報道もあります。

この表明の背景には、トランプ政権で政治への関与を深めるマスク氏への批判がテスラの不買運動などにつながり、同社の経営にも影を落としていることがあります。

同社の第一四半期の利益は前年比で7割も減少したということです。

市場のアナリストからはマスク氏は政府の仕事から手を引き、テスラ社の経営に注力すべきとの意見が出ていました。

アナリストはマスク氏は岐路に立たされているとし、"code red situation"に直面していると発言したようです。"code red situation"とは危機的状況という意味です。

American Heritage Dictionaryで"code red"を引くと、

1. A condition of heightened alertness or preparedness, especially to guard against imminent danger.

2. A warning of or signal indicating imminent danger.

と定義されています。

危険、危機が迫っているということを伝える赤色というのはどの文化にも共通するように思われます。

ところでAmerican Heritageでは、"code red"に並んで、"code blue"という表現も載っており、その定義は、

A medical emergency in which a team of medical personnel work to revive an individual in cardiac arrest.

というものです。主に医療現場で使われるもののようですが、こちらも危険な状況ということになります。

アナリストが用いた"code red situation"は多くのメディアで引用されています。（ちなみに"code blue"を用いたものはありません。）

記事に添えられた写真の中には真っ赤なボディのテスラ社のモデルも見えます。そういえば売上が低迷するテスラを勢いづけようとトランプ大統領が購入し、ホワイトハウスで報道陣に公開したのがが赤いボディカラーのモデルS Plaidでした。

赤は共和党のカラーでもあります。そして、マスク氏ら、トランプ大統領の取り巻きが得意気に被るMAGAの帽子も赤です。

"code red"とは皮肉でしょうか。
