イタリア議会で"femicide"を処罰する法案が可決されたと報じられています。

"femicide"とはなんでしょうか？そのスペルから女性（female）の殺人（homicide）を指すのだろうと想像がつきます。果たして、"femicide"とは"the murder of a woman"、そして終身刑が科されるとのことです。人を殺めれば重罪というのは当たり前では、と思いました。

Deputies in the Italian parliament have voted unanimously to introduce the crime of femicide – the murder of a woman, motivated by gender – as a distinct law to be punished with a life sentence.

The idea of a law on femicide had been discussed in Italy before but the murder of Giulia Cecchettin by her ex-boyfriend was a tragedy that shocked the country into action.

In late November 2023, the 22-year-old was stabbed to death by Filippo Turetta, who then wrapped her body in bags and dumped it by a lakeside.

法案が議会に提出された背景には、イタリア国内で増加している女性への暴力や殺害事件があるということです。2年前、当時大学生であった女性が元ボーイフレンドに刺殺され、その死体が遺棄された事件が法案提出の機運を高めたとの説明があります。

よって、"femicide"とは、パートナーや恋人などごく親しい関係にある男性による女性の殺害という定義になるようです。

という説明がされています。女性という弱い立場に付け込んだ犯罪という捉え方が一般的のようです。

日本においても元交際相手による殺害事件、ストーカー事案などが増加していると聞きます。いずれ、日本でも"femicide"という概念が導入されることになるのかとも思います。

ちょうど先日11月25日は、女性に対する暴力撤廃の国際デー（The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women）でしたが、それに合わせての法案可決であったということです。
