ヒトラーの隠し子!? ― love child

ヒトラーの隠し子!?などと聞くとえっ？と言わずにはいられない感じですが、色々な証拠もあって事実のようです。

A story published in the French magazine Le Point cites official military documents indicating cash payments to the mother of Jean-Marie Loret during the German occupation of France in World War II.

いわゆる”隠し子”のことを英語で"love child"というとは知りませんでした。

”非嫡出子”という硬い表現もありますが、こちらは英語では"an illegitimate child"となるようです。

もう1つ、"bastard"という表現もありますが、こちらは映画などでもよく聞かれる、どちらかと言えば上品とは言えない表現のように捉えていますが、語源的には結婚を意味する"bost"という語（ゲルマン語系）に由来するもののようです。（ランダムハウス英和辞書によると、ここでの”結婚”は一夫多妻制のことで、そのような制度のもとで産まれ、認知されない子のことをあてこすった表現だったようです。）

"love child"は"bastard"の婉曲表現という解釈もあるようです。Oxford Dictionary of Euphemismsでは、"love child"のエントリがあります。

しかし個人的に思うのですが、"love child"という表現はまったくもってストレートな表現ではないでしょうか？つまりは、愛がなければ情交に至ることは無く、また子供が生まれてくることもない訳で・・・。
