大麻、マリファナと言えば麻薬のこと、日本人ならばそう即答するでしょう。大麻の栽培は違法ですし、所持により逮捕される有名人や大学生などが後を断ちません。

諸外国ではやや事情が違います。確かオランダではマリファナは合法であったかと記憶します。街中のお店でマリファナを吸うことができると聞いたことがあります。

アメリカではトランプ政権がマリファナの合法化を検討していると報じられています。

現在、アメリカではControlled Substance Actという法律において、マリファナ、大麻は"Schedule 1"にリストされており、濫用の危険がある薬物として規制されていますが、それを"Schedule 3"に移すという検討がされている模様です。

ここでは"Schedule"という単語が使われています。

「スケジュール」というと予定表のことですが、ここでの"Schedule"は一覧表、目録といった意味合いで、特にアメリカにおいては規制薬物の一覧の事、

"schedule"という単語の語源は紙片を意味するラテン語schidaです。遡ってギリシャ語skhizeinは裂くという意味があり、紙を裂いて作った紙片に書き込んだものを"schedule"と呼んだそうです。
