ハリケーンHeleneが去ったのも束の間、また別のハリケーンMiltonが襲いかかるという状況にあって、フロリダ州のデサンティス知事とハリス副大統領が互いの非難に明け暮れていると報道されています。

デサンティス知事曰く、ハリス氏はフロリダ州に対して何の支援もしていない、ということなのですが、一方のハリス氏はデサンティス氏に電話をしたのに出なかったと言い、子供の喧嘩でしょうか？ハリケーン被害支援の問題は政争の具になっているようです。

デサンティス氏によれば、同氏はバイデン大統領の支援には感謝していると発言しているらしく、諸々の確執はデサンティス氏とハリス氏の間の個人的なものなのかとも思わされます。

ハリケーン対応を巡ってはトランプ元大統領がバイデン政権に対する非難を展開していました。これに対して政権側は、被害者への支援が滞っているというのは誤情報（misinformation）であると反論しています。

一方で、デサンティス氏とハリス氏の応酬に関して、ニューズウィーク誌では、大統領選候補のハリス氏にとっては支持率を減らす要因になりかねないとの見立てです。これはハリス氏、民主党陣営にとっては困った話です。

引用した記事のコンテクストに戻りますと、ハリケーン問題は大統領選に行方を左右しかねない、不確定要素になっているということで、とりわけ今回のゴタゴタはハリス氏陣営にマイナスに響きかねないという見方がされています。

"wildcard"は切る方からすればその使い方は思いのまま、如何様にも使えるというところですが、使われる方の身からすれば、影響が測り知れない、困ったもんだ、という意味合いになりますね。
