compromising position

A CONSULTANT left a patient in the middle of an operation to have sex with a nurse, a medical tribunal heard yesterday.

Dad-of-three anaesthetist Suhail Anjum, 44, popped into an adjoining theatre for the romp because he knew “Nurse C” was nearby.

He told colleagues working on the keyhole gallbladder removal that he was going for a comfort break but a colleague readying for another op found him and Nurse C “in a compromising position”.

Anjum was tying up his trousers while Nurse C’s were around her knees with her underwear on display.
(Ryan Parry. Senior doctor caught having sex with nurse after leaving patient in the middle of an OPERATION. The Sun. September 11, 2025.)

in a compromising position

in a compromising position
idiomatic phrase
: having sexual relations —used euphemistically

to involve in extramarital copulation

john

Let’s be honest — people have a habit of bringing their phones to the bathroom. I’ve been guilty of it myself, and chances are that someone is on the toilet reading this article right now. A three-minute trip to the loo can easily turn into 15 minutes of reading, scrolling and posting.

It might seem a harmless way to pass the time when you’re going number two. However, experts warn that what they call prolonged sitting on the toilet can harm your health.

People should spend an average of five to 10 minutes on the john, according to Dr. Farah Monzur, an assistant professor of medicine and director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center at Stony Brook Medicine on Long Island, New York.
(Jocelyn Solis-Moreira. Don’t sit on the toilet for more than 10 minutes, doctors warn. CNN.  November12, 2024.)

john

johnny

Johnny house

From the cousin John men and women said they had to visit when they absented themselves.

neurodivergent

MAGA-affiliated accounts on social media have mocked Tim Walz's 17-year-old neurodivergent son Gus for crying during his father's speech at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday.

Gus Walz, who has ADHD, along with a non-verbal learning disorder and an anxiety disorder, and his mom Gwen Walz, were crying when the Democratic vice-presidential nominee gave them a shout-out before the roaring crowd.

Early in Tim Walz's speech, he spoke about his and his wife's struggles with infertility before conceiving their daughter Hope Walz, 23, who was also in attendance. The Minnesota governor gave a brief shoutout to his family, saying, "Hope, Gus and Gwen, you are my entire world, and I love you."

Gus was seen crying and cheering after being mentioned by his father, including pointing to the stage and appearing to say, "That's my dad."
(Flynn Nichols. MAGA Mocks Tim Walz's Son For Crying During DNC Speech. Newsweek. August 22, 2024.)

1. Having a neurodevelopmental disorder, especially autism spectrum disorder
2. Relating to or characteristic of people who have a neurodevelopmental disorder, especially autism spectrum disorder

The viewpoint according to which differences in behavior and cognition that are clinically associated with neurodevelopmental disorders are instead part of a continuum of neurodevelopmental diversity and not disordered.

fricking

The Biden campaign gleefully turned one of Donald Trump’s favorite digs against him on Saturday, branding the 78-year-old candidate as woefully geriatric in response to his embarrassing stumble at a Minnesota rally on Friday.

Video from the event shared by Biden-Harris HQ on X showed Trump grabbing the lectern during his remarks on stage, after nearly toppling the podium over.

“You know this is the worst platform, who put this stage up?” he ad-libbed, cutting into his own remarks. “The fricking place is falling down.”

“I notice it keeps tilting to the left,” Trump joked, “Like too many other things!”
(Amanda Yen. Biden Camp Has a Field Day With Wobbly Trump at Podium. The Daily Beast. May 19, 2024.)

The fricking place is falling down.

eliminate

A Democrat congressman is walking back a comment he made against former President Trump over the weekend that sparked a social media firestorm.

"Yesterday on TV, I mistakenly used the wrong word to express the importance for America that Donald Trump doesn’t become President again," Rep. Daniel Goldman of New York posted on X on Monday.

"While he must be defeated, I certainly wish no harm to him and do not condone political violence. I apologize for the poor choice of words."
(Andrew Mark Miller. New York Dem backtracks after calling for Trump to be 'eliminated'. Fox News. November 20, 2023.)

"His rhetoric is really getting dangerous," Goldman said during an interview with President Biden's former press secretary Jen Psaki on her MSNBC show.

"More and more dangerous. We saw what happened on January 6th, when he used his inflammatory rhetoric now, and his recent truth social post is incredibly, incredibly scary for anyone that might be trying to work in government. And it is just unquestionable at this point that man cannot see public office again. He is not only unfit, he is destructive to our democracy, and he has to be eliminated."
(ibid.)

he has to be eliminated.

Conservatives on X were outraged by Goldman’s comments, with some arguing that the lawmaker was alluding to assassinating the former president.
(New York Post)

eliminate  to kill.
A variant of LIQUIDATE with the same origin and the same connotations, usually of political or espionage killings.

naughty bits

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — A Florida charter school principal has been forced to resign after a parent complained sixth graders were exposed to pornography during a lesson on Renaissance art that included Michelangelo’s “David” sculpture.

The Tallahassee Democrat reported that the principal, Hope Carrasquilla, of Tallahassee Classical School resigned this week after an ultimatum from the school board’s chairman.
(Principal resigns after complaints on ‘David’ statue nudity. The Associated Press. March 25, 2023.)

Perhaps students, even in elementary school, know the difference between Renaissance art and porn — and if they don’t, maybe lessons like this will teach them that difference. The purpose here is to educate the children and, unfortunately, some facts sometimes make some people squeamish.

Sorry, but they’ll get over it.

But we’ll never see everyone agree in matters of taste. Many TV news reports picked up the Democrat’s story about Tallahassee Classical — but digitally blurred out the naught bits, or cropped photos of David so’s not to make anybody blush.
(Bill Cotterell. A David vs. Goliath clash of artistic taste and parental choice. Tallahassee Democrat. March 26, 2023.)

naughty bits (the)
the male or female genitalia.
A usage of adults with children which makes a number of unmerited assumptions and might even implant unfortunate inhibitions.

downstairs appendage

A Finnish skier competing in a men's cross-country skiing race at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing suffered damage to his equipment on Saturday, but just not what you might expect, according to a report.

Remi Lindholm, 24, of Finland, spent over an hour traversing the shortened men's 50km mass start free race in brutal temperatures and howling winds, causing his penis to become frozen, Reuters reported.

"You can guess which body part was a little bit frozen when I finished ... it was one of the worst competitions I've been in," Lindholm told Finnish media. "It was just about battling through."
(David Aaro. Finnish skier suffers frozen penis during event at Beijing Olympics — After the race, Lindholm said he needed a heat pack to thaw out his downstairs appendage. Fox News. February 20, 2022.)

downstairs appendage

a particularly sensitive body part

"downstairs"について、Oxford Dictionary of Euphemismsでは、

the genitalia. A genteel use by male and female.

stick one's spoon in the wall

stick one's spoon in the wall

Stick your spoon in the wall, to die. Where did this saying originate?

It orginated in the Royal Navy and British Army at least by 1825. Then it meant one would have no need of a spoon at mess, that is they were either dead or such.
(phrases.co.ukのサイトより引用)

When I examined the wonderful collection of glossaries of county dialects I realised just how monastic was the zeal with which the Victorian lexicographers went about their compiling. Just as they collected the rocks, butterflies and ancient antiquities that now fill our museums, so (predominantly between 1850 and 1880) they went around collecting examples of local dialect from every county in England and several in Scotland – and even some specific industrial communities such as the mining villages of Yorkshire and Durham.

I learned much about the British character through the English language.

Another predilection is the use of euphemisms, a result of delicacy and manners:

The final dying action of the body is also something that people prefer not to confront directly, as the following euphemisms for dying attest: stick one's spoon in the wall (1800s); go west (Cockney); go trumpet-cleaning (late 19th century: the trumpeter being the angel Gabriel); drop one's leaf (c1820) or take the everlasting knock (1889) although perhaps the most poetic is to faint away in this vale of tears (Brompton Cemetery, London 1896).
(What Britain's county dialects can tell us about the national character. The Guardian. April 4, 2014.)

(Arika Okrent. 35 Creative Slang Terms for Death From the Past 600 Years. Mental Floss. October 2, 2015.)

ところで、"stick one's spoon in the wall"がなぜ「死ぬ」という意味になるのでしょう?

birthday suit

A bold and bare traveler is experiencing the world in all its glory – one naked handstand at a time!

The anonymous "Naked Handstander" has stripped down and showed off his impeccable form in 17 different countries across the globe, Caters News Agency reports.

Supporting his weight on two hands while stretching his legs towards the sky – the nude vagabond proudly spreads his limbs like a gallant starfish – taking it all in while wearing only his birthday suit.
(Chris Perez. What an ass! 'Naked Handstander' takes his act across the world. New York Post. September 8, 2014.)

birthday suit

― relieve oneself

HOUSTON — A wealthy New York City real estate heir who was acquitted in the murder of a Galveston man, faces criminal mischief charges after workers said he relieved himself on a candy rack at a CVS store.

A CVS employee told police that Robert Durst, 71, picked up a prescription at the pharmacy on Sunday at about noon, then exposed himself and urinated on some candy in the store before leaving. The CVS employee called police.
(Doug Miller. Wealthy eccentric accused of urinating on candy at CVS. USA Today. July 24, 2014.)

Oxford Dictionary of Euphemism

Archie had needed immediate relief in the bathroom. (Davidson, 1978)
(Oxford Dictionary of Euphemisms)
