behind the eight ball

Congestion pricing isn’t dead yet, according to the head of the transit agency.

Janno Lieber, the MTA’s chair and CEO, broke days of silence Monday on Gov. Kathy Hochul indefinitely pausing the controversial $15 toll program.

The MTA will be ready to forward with congestion pricing “if and when” the program gets the green light, Lieber said.

“We at the MTA aren’t giving up on congestion pricing, not at all,” he told reporters from MTA headquarters in lower Manhattan Monday afternoon.

But Lieber made clear that Hochul’s last-minute decision to stop Manhattan tolls — which would have raised $1 billion a year for the MTA — pulled the rug out on a host of major projects and service upgrades that transit officials had hoped to fund through congestion pricing.

“We’ve got a tall order and we’re behind the eight ball right now,” he said. “That’s why we’re taking these, frankly, very serious steps to carve up the capital program and make sure we don’t let the system fall into disrepair.”
(ibid.)

behind the eight ball

よって、"behind the eight ball"とは、

run the table

Fox News legal analyst Jonathan Turley says former President Trump could die in prison if convicted on just one count after being indicted by the Justice Department last week on dozens of charges related to his handling of classified documents.

“The problem is, he’s got to run the table — he’s 76 years old,” Turley, a former opinion contributor for The Hill, said of Trump during an appearance on Fox News. “All the government has to do is stick the landing on one count, and he could have a terminal sentence. You’re talking about crimes that have a 10- or 20-year period as a maximum.”
(Dominick Mastrangelo. Fox News’s Turley: Trump could face ‘terminal sentence’ if DOJ proves even one count. The Hill. June, 12, 2023.)

“The problem is, he’s got to run the table — he’s 76 years old,”

run the table
1
: to sink all remaining shots without missing in pool
2
: to win all remaining contests

ducks in a row

YouTube Music subscription service arrives next week as Google puts its content ducks in a row

Set to debut on Tuesday, May 22, the new YouTube Music takes a page out of Spotify's book and will be offered in two flavors: an ad-supported free tier and a monthly $9.99 subscription service with free trial period.

The idea is for YouTube Music to eventually replace Google Play Music, which Google was running as a competing platform to its original YouTube Music service, though when that transition will take place is undecided, reports USA Today.

Google puts its content ducks in a row
