WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Health experts are fond of saying any new disease is just a flight away from anywhere, and a report published on Monday shows the new strain of H1N1 flu followed the airline route map as it spread around the globe.

"flight"は何か特別な意味があるのかと帰宅してから辞書などを調べてみましたが、結局、いわゆる”飛行機のフライト”のことだと結論しました。このような用法ですが、結局のところ、

He lives in three miles away from the train station.

とか

The museum is ten minutes away by bus.

といった例文に見られる、"three miles"や"ten minutes"のように、"a flight"は漠然と距離感を示す単位的な意味で用いられていると考えられます。

飛行機での移動が日常茶飯事になった今日では、"flight"も単位的な意味で用いられるようになったと言えるということでしょうか？

問題はこの箇所を日本語にどう訳すかですが、なかなか難しいですね。
