offal

"The problem with just feeding lions meat is that the offal (liver, heart, etc.) is much richer in various nutrients than muscle meat – wild lions only start eating the muscle tissue after they've finished the offal," Craig Packer, founder and director of the Lion Center at the University of Minnesota, told NPR in an email. "So feeding lions anything besides horse and cow meat would probably be a welcome change."

The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) is an accreditation body for conservation programs in the United States. It said that its member zoos do not employ or endorse the solicitation of pets for food.

But the Nutritional Advisory Group to the AZA highlights the importance of predatory animals still having access to large and whole animal remains as part of a balanced diet.
(Alana Wise. A zoo in Denmark asked patrons to donate their pets. Not as attractions, but for food. NPR. August 6, 2025.)

spoofing

A well-known city firm that owns and manages luxury properties was allegedly scammed out of nearly $19 million thanks to a single phishing email, The Post has learned.

The “spoofing’’ email led to the gargantuan sum getting accidentally transferred to a TD Bank account posing as the Battery Park City Authority, according to sources with knowledge of the situation and the internal correspondence.
(Shane Galvin. NYC firm handling lux properties allegedly scammed out of $19M — thanks to single phishing email. New York Post. August 5, 2025.)

potassium

It's true that you lose electrolytes in your sweat.

Sweat is mostly water and salt, with additional minerals like potassium and magnesium, and small quantities of glucose, ethanol, hormones and other bodily compounds.

These minerals are electrolytes, which help your cells maintain equilibrium and communicate with one another.
(Pien Huang. What's the deal with electrolyte drinks — do you need them to stay hydrated? NPR. August 4, 2025)

potassium

potash

precipice

on the precipice of recession

The shocking jobs report on Friday wasn’t the only red flag. Indicators from the past week paint an overall picture of an economy that’s headed for a downturn, according to Moody’s Analytics chief economist Mark Zandi.

“The economy is on the precipice of recession. That’s the clear takeaway from last week’s economic data dump,” Zandi wrote in a series of posts on X on Sunday. “Consumer spending has flatlined, construction and manufacturing are contracting, and employment is set to fall. And with inflation on the rise, it is tough for the Fed to come to the rescue.”
(Jason Ma. Top economist warns the U.S. is ‘on the precipice of recession’ — and it will be hard for the Fed to come to the rescue. Fortune. August 3, 2025.)

trade job

AI is rendering Gen Z job-solete.

With bots becoming ubiquitous in every sector, the 20-somethings coming of working age during the AI era fear that the tech could derail their careers.

According to a survey by online job platform Zety, 72% of Gen Z workers believe AI will kill the number of entry-level corporate jobs over the next half-decade, pushing them towards blue-collar gigs to remain vocationally relevant.
(Ben Cost. Most Gen Z workers fear AI is eventually going to kill their careers — and force them into blue-collar jobs. New York Post. July 31, 2025.)

Gen Z’s “interest in trade work and hands-on careers shows a desire for purpose, security, and control in an AI-driven world,” Jasmine Escalera, a career expert at Zety, told HR Drive.

“More Gen Z college graduates are turning to trade careers and for good reason,” Resume Builder’s Chief Career Advisor Stacie Haller pointed out.

Trade jobs offer hands-on work that’s difficult to automate. Additionally, many grads find their degrees don’t lead to careers in their field, prompting them to explore more practical, in-demand alternatives.”
(ibid.)

An occupation, especially one requiring skilled labor; craft
(American Heritage Dictionary)
