唐突ですが、"food porn"という言葉をご存知ですか？
Food Porn is new to me.
I heard of it only recently, but since then I have been hearing it a lot. Articles in the press, websites, blogs, advertisements. Chefs who fight against it. Chefs who defend it. Lawyers who say it’s legal. Lawyers who say it isn’t.
Food Porn seems to be "in," if we're to believe social media and the thousands of food photos uploaded daily to Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and others for millions of Food Porn addicts to salivate over. Then there are the countless web sites and blogs devoted to Food Porn and to uploaded photos from the food-obsessed.
It's certainly not porn as we know it (not that I really know porn).
Rather, it relates to posting pictures of food on the Internet. Appealing, provocative, sensual pictures of "exotic dishes that arouse a desire to eat, or the glorificaiton of food as a substitute for sex," according to Wikipedia, which helpfully advises not to confuse food porn with food and sexuality.

"porn"（ポルノ）というと後ろ暗い感じがしますが、食べ物（food）のポルノって一体？？
“ポルノ”は言ってみればそれを見る人の性欲を刺激するもの。"food"のポルノとは、性欲ではなく食欲を刺激するもの、というのが定義のようです。
この表現の隆盛には、フェースブックなどのソーシャルメディアの流行が要因としてあるようです。つまり、ソーシャルメディアを通して共有される様々な"food"の写真こそが、それを見る人々の食欲を刺激しているのです。
辞書に掲載される日も近いかもしれません。

Win XPサポート終了 ― on your own
少し前の話になりますが、マイクロソフト社がオペレーティングシステムであるウィンドウズXPのサポートを来月で終了すると発表しました。
まだ使えるものを勿体無い、というのは私の信条なのですが、多くの人が（サポート終了は）早すぎると思われているかもしれません。

Lots of people feel the same way about software. Almost 30 percent of the world’s desktop computers run Microsoft Corp.’s Windows XP, an operating system introduced in 2001. About 40 percent of the PCs at The Boston Globe still run XP, and so do 95 percent of the world’s automatic teller machines, according to ATM maker NCR Corp.
But XP’s hour has finally come. On April 8, Microsoft will stop all technical support for the software. There won’t be any more updates or security patches. Despite the presence of a countdown clock on Microsoft’s website, XP won’t turn to a pumpkin at midnight. Keep using it — if you dare. But when it comes to protecting sensitive data from online thieves, you’ll be on your own.

尤も、サポートは無いとは言っても、システム自体は使い続けることが出来るのですから、そこは個人の選択次第です。
"you'll be on your own"とは、“自己責任で”、ということです。

上手出し投げ！？ ― get the upper hand
今日の表現は、"get(ting) the upper hand"です。"gain the upper hand"とも言います。（動詞の部分は、"get"や"gain"以外に"have"、"take"なども使われるようです。）
SAN FRANCISCO -- A massive fire at a condominium construction site near AT&T Park was nearly 60% contained by 7 p.m. Tuesday and firefighters were "getting the upper hand," San Francisco Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White said.
Hayes-White said 140 firefighters were spraying nearby buildings to prevent the blaze from burning other structures. She said there were no injuries.

ところで、"the upper hand"とは何を意味しているのだろうかという疑問が沸いてきました。人の手のことなのでしょうか？でも"upper"とは？
"the upper hand"を字面通りに“上手（うわて）”と訳してしまうことができますが、相撲の決まり手“上手出し投げ”を想起してしまいます。意味的には近いのですが・・・。

マレーシア航空機依然不明 ― peter out
クアラルンプール発北京行きのマレーシア航空の旅客機が消息を絶ってから丸3日が過ぎましたが、事故なのかテロなのか、一体何が起きたのか、依然つかめていません。
ベトナム沖で残骸らしきものが見つかったという報道もありましたが、同旅客機であるとの確証は得られておらず、各国が捜索を続けている模様です。

北朝鮮の金正恩代表が100％の信任を受けて最高指導者に選出されたというニュースです。
言うまでもなく独裁国家です。今日の朝刊でも読みましたが、選挙というのは名ばかりで実際には対立候補もおらず、信任・不信任を記すだけの投票用紙なのだそうですが、不信任の場合に記入する斜線はすぐにそれと分かってしまうらしく、不信任票を投じたことが分かってしまうのを恐れて誰もそうしないそうです。

Mr Kim's 100% approval from his Mount Paektu constituency reflects the "absolute support" of people in the country, KCNA news agency says.

"rubber-stamp"というのはゴム印のことです。"シャチハタ"とも言いますね。荷物の受け取りや簡単な確認印として使われる“認印”としての役割ですが、“実印”に比べて気軽に使うものであることから、概して“いい加減（な）”という含みがあります。
ここでいう形容詞としての"rubber-stamp"も同様で、十分な検討を経ないで認可する、承認する、という意味で用いられます。
もう1つ別の用法を見てみましょう。
