"clip the wings"という成句をご存知でしょうか？用例を以下に示します。

コンテクストから大体言わんとするところは分かるのですが、辞書を引くと、
to restrain someone; to reduce or put an end to someone's privileges. (Alludes to clipping a bird's wings to keep it from flying away.)

とあります。字義通りに解釈すると（鳥などの）羽根をカットする、ということになりますが、羽根を切られてしまえば鳥は飛べなくなってしまう訳で、"clip the wings"とは行動を制限する、というような意味で用いられるようです。
さて、引用した記事で問題になっているのは格安航空券を手配するウェブサイトのサービスですが、そのサービスの中身が航空会社側にとっては問題なのだそうです。
詳しくは記事をお読みいただければと思いますが、乗り継ぎ便を指定するやり方で安い運賃で購入する仕組みがサービスに組み込まれているらしく、利用者にとっては有難い話ですが、実際には利用者は乗り継ぎするのではなく、（乗り継ぎの）経由地を目的地としており、航空会社にとっては機材のやりくりなどで問題が生じてくるそうです。
このような（航空会社にとって）厄介なサービス（仕組み）を"clip the wings"したい、というのが構図です。
記事のライターが敢えて"clip the wings"という成句を使った理由を推測すると、1つには飛行機の話題ということがあるでしょう。もう1つは、このサービスの開発者のことを、"a computer whiz"と表現しているところに着目します。
"whiz"は"wizard"の短縮形ともされているそうですが、素早く動く（飛ぶ）という意味の動詞"whiz"にも関連しているということで、これに掛けたイディオムの選択でもあるのかも知れません。

米・アップル社が欧州連合での販売ポリシーの更改を余儀なくされました。
First they made Google give their citizens the right to be forgotten, now European regulators have forced Apple to offer a 14-day, no questions asked return policy for digital goods purchased through iTunes and the App Store.
Apple customers residing in European Union member countries have been granted the right to request their money back for any songs, apps or books within two weeks of purchase, provided the content has been downloaded automatically. If a user downloads the content manually to another device, the refund does not apply.
Apple previously allowed users to cancel a transaction at any time until point of delivery, but because automatic downloads often cause content to be delivered instantly upon payment this didn't actually allow users any time to change their minds.

go bananas
"go bananas"という成句をご存知でしょうか？
ランダムハウス英和辞書では、頭がおかしくなる、という意味が載っています。用例として下記の引用を読んでみましょう。

見切り品 ― cut-price
スーパーで買い物するとき、見切り品コーナーが目に留まることしばしばです。（見向きもしないという人もいるかも知れませんが・・・。）
“見切り品”を英語で何と言うのでしょうか？

ファーストフードは学力にも影響 ― slow
ファーストフードの食べすぎは良くないとはよく言われてきたところです。改めて言うまでもありませんが、特に栄養の偏りがあるという点や肥満につながるということが指摘されてきました。
最近の研究によるとファーストフードの悪影響としては肥満にとどまらず、学力低下にもつながるという報告があるようです。
Children who eat the most fast-food tend to get significantly poorer scores in math, science and reading tests, a new nationwide study that examined the habits of over 8,500 young Americans reveals.
Parents now have a new matter of concern regarding their kids’ fast-food consumption, as it correlates with future academic achievements, not to mention obesity and skin problems.
Visits to popular restaurants such as McDonald’s, Burger King, Pizza Hut and KFC, at the age of 10, could have ill-effects three years later, in eighth grade, says the report, published in Clinical Pediatrics journal this month.
