the key to the executive toilet

Five years later, a growing number of companies from Amazon to Ford are winding back the clock on remote work – but not for everyone.

Flexibility is fast becoming an elite perk, with some top executives running their businesses hundreds or thousands of miles from the home office from the comfort of their own home office.

Like most sought-after workplace perks, flexibility is largely a function of power and pay, according to Stanford University economics professor Nick Bloom, who studies remote work.

Higher-income workers are more likely to have remote work arrangements than those at the lower end of the pay scale, his research shows. Just 5% of workers making $10,000 to $50,000 a year live 50 or more miles from their office, compared to 14% of those earning over $250,000.

“Before the pandemic, working from home was a predictor of low pay. We used to joke about it. Is he working from home or shirking from home?” Bloom said. “Now it’s like the key to the executive toilet. Being able to work from home is something that people are flexing about.”
(Jessica Gwynn. Is remote work only for the rich? Double standard ignites workplace tension. USA Today. June 29, 2025.)

Now it’s like the key to the executive toilet

key to the executive toilet"とはどういう意味でしょうか?

body count

body count

How many people someone has slept with is a personal thing that most don’t want to disclose — unless maybe you’re on a reality TV dating show like Love Island, where they created an entire challenge around the topic.

However, according to a Washington State University study, there is a simple way to determine if a person gets freaky in the sheets often — and it has to do with how much strength they have.

Lead researchers Caroline Smith and Ed Hagen analyzed data from 4,300 US participants. They found that people — both men and women — with upper body strength reportedly have a high number of sexual partners.
(Fabiana Buontempo. This is an easy way to figure out if someone has a high ‘body count’, study says. New York Post. June 26, 2025.)

getup

The Ukrainian war leader appeared to have learned his lesson from February’s disastrous Oval Office meeting with Trump and Vice President JD Vance, which descended into a shouting match after Zelensky was chided for his trademark military-style getup by a reporter.

Zelensky was pictured in the group photo of world leaders Tuesday wearing a black suit-style jacket and shirt, rather than his usual more casual get-up.
(Anthony Blair. Zelensky ditches T-shirt for a suit for sit-down meeting with President Trump. New York Post. June 25, 2025.)

jamboree

Campaigners in Venice have claimed victory after Jeff Bezos was reportedly forced to change the venue for his wedding celebrations in the city as his guests started arriving on Tuesday for the three-day jamboree.

The main reception for the wedding of Bezos and Lauren Sánchez, a former TV journalist, was due to be held in the Scuola Grande della Misericordia, a majestic 16th-century building in the city centre.

But according to the No Space for Bezos group, the couple relented after activists threatened to fill the canals with inflatable crocodiles to block their celebrity guests from entering.
(Angela Giuffrida. Jeff Bezos alters Venice wedding plans after threat of inflatable crocodiles. The Guardian. June 24, 2025.)

jamboree

sleeper cell

The United States has ramped up its monitoring of Iranian sleeper cells as President Donald Trump’s strikes on three major Iranian nuclear sites decisively propelled the U.S. into Israel’s war.

Following Saturday’s strikes, which Trump claimed “totally obliterated” Iran’s nuclear sites of Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan, both White House and FBI officials have been on high alert for Iranian sleeper cells.

Sleeper cells comprised of spies or terrorists hiding out in the U.S. or Western countries, remain inactive, often living quiet and unassuming lives working regular jobs until they are ordered to act on a mission.
(Isabel Keane. What are sleeper cells and why are the FBI on alert for them after Trump’s strikes on Iran? Yahoo! News.  June 23, 2025.)

A spy infiltrating an organization but saying inactive.
(Oxford Dictionary of Euphemisms)
