サークルの意味 ー circle

トランプ米大統領の不人気は今に始まったことではありませんが、今日のニュース記事では支持率が最低を更新したということのようです。

ヴァージニア州での集会を巡る騒動をきっかけにトランプ氏への批判が改めて高まっていることも背景にあるようです。

こうした状況の中、トランプ氏に代わる大統領候補が早くも話題になっている次第です。トランプ氏は任期を全うできるのでしょうか？

トランプ氏の自叙伝のゴーストライターを務めた作家が、トランプ氏は任期を全う出来ないと発言したそうです。

上記に引用した記事中の発言で、

とあるのですが、ここでの"circle"の意味合いについて考えてみたいと思います。

言うまでもなく、"circle"とは円、丸（まる）のことです。

その円が閉じていっている、とはどういうことでしょうか？

成句の類かと思ったのですが、辞書にはそれらしきエントリがありませんでしたので、"circle"の項を上から見ていきますと、


活動範囲、勢力圏内


という意味が載っていました。

Merriam-Webster Dictionaryでは、"realm"と同義となっています。
