A violent pair bashed a man in the head with a gun before swiping his luxury watch and a bundle of cash outside an East Village dive bar early Tuesday, cops said. 

The duo — both strangers — approached the victim around 3:20 a.m. in front of Josie’s Bar on East 6th Street near Avenue A and yanked on his fanny pack, police said. 

One of the muggers then pulled out a gun and hit him over the head multiple times, leaving him bloody, authorities said.

強盗の話ですが、記事のタイトルで、

pistol-whip

という表現が使われています。ニューヨーク繁華街のバーで二人組が男性1人を襲って時計や金を奪ったというものですが、"pistol-whip"の意味するところは本文からお分かりのようにピストルで打撃を加えた、ということです。

変わった表現だなぁと思ったのですが、意外にも（?!）この"pistol-whip"という単語は辞書にちゃんと載っているんですね。ランダムハウス英和辞書ではアメリカ英語の表現として、

（特に人の頭部と肩を）ピストルで繰り返し殴る

とあります。映画のワンシーンのようですが、ピストルは弾丸を撃ち込めば殺傷能力もある武器ですが、ピストルをちらつかせて脅すのに使われることもあれば、相手を殴打するのにも使えるという訳です。

ある意味銃社外アメリカを彷彿とさせる表現ではないかと思います。
