もはやつべこべ言い訳せずに・・・ ― no ifs, ands, or buts...

日本でも平成15年に健康増進法が制定されて以来、公共施設での禁煙が進み、最近ではレストランなどでも分煙ではなく原則禁煙を求める通知が厚生労働省から出されるなどしています。

米国ミシガン州でも、バーやレストランでの禁煙が、5月1日より義務化されたということです。これは州単位での取り組みと思われますが、同様の禁煙促進政策が既に37の州で制度化されているということです。

今回取り上げる記事のタイトルが面白いと思いました。

そう、"butts"です。通常は、

です。"butts"としているのは、タバコの軸の部分（フィルタというんでしょうか？）を言うのですが、"but"と語呂合わせしているわけです。

日本語訳では、”つべこべ言わず”という訳が定着しているようです。この語呂合わせについてはどのような訳が考えられるでしょうか？

昔よく、親から怒られたりした時に、”でも・・・”といいかけると、すぐに”デモもストもあるか！”と一喝された記憶があるのですが、”つべこべ言い訳をするな”という点では意味を同じくしていると思います。
