タイヤがパンクした、と言いますが、相当する英語の表現は”flat tire"です。

ではなぜパンクというのでしょうか？

穴を開ける、と言う意味の

に由来するそうです。


WALLINGFORD, Conn. (WWLP) - A South Hadley man died after being struck by an out of control car while on the side of the highway fixing a flat tire on Interstate 91 in Connecticut.

45-year-old Dariusz Dymon was killed Saturday afternoon in Wallingford.

Police say his vehicle was parked on the right shoulder and Dymon was standing outside when two cars collided and struck Dymon.

He was rushed to an area hospital where he later died.
