親方 ― stablemaster

暴力団との関係で揺れる角界、日本の全国紙の英字新聞のみならず、海外紙でも記事になっています。

相撲部屋の”親方”のことを、"stablemaster"（あるいは、"stable master"）と表現しているのは、Daily Yomiuriなどの、日系英字新聞です。


Sumo stablemaster Kise, recently demoted for providing gangsters with tickets to a tournament, admitted to the Japan Sumo Association last month that he once had ties to gang members, according to informed sources in the sport.

"stable"を検索すると、


(プロボクサーなどの)養成所,部屋,ジム（ランダムハウス英和辞典）


とあり、そこの主は、"stable"の"master"であり、納得。

では、海外紙も"stablemaster"で一致しているかというと、どうもそうではなさそうで、単に"coach"（コーチ）と表現しているのが下記です。

New York Times誌（blog）に至っても、
