time to heal

アメリカ大統領選の決着はどうやらバイデン氏勝利で落ち着きそうな模様となりました。

トランプ氏は投票所不正などの疑いで訴訟を提起していますが、大勢に影響は無いというのが大方の見方のようです。

バイデン氏は勝利宣言を行い、そのスピーチ全文が引用されているのを読んでみました。

アメリカ全土の国民に向けた、簡潔で分かりやすい文だと思いました。

My fellow Americans, the people of this nation have spoken.

They have delivered us a clear victory. A convincing victory.

A victory for “We the people.”

We have won with the most votes ever cast for a presidential ticket in the history of this nation — 74 million.

I am humbled by the trust and confidence you have placed in me.

I pledge to be a resident [sic] who seeks not to divide, but to unify.

Who doesn’t see red and blue states, but a United States.

And who will work with all my heart to win the confidence of the whole people.

"I pledge to be a resident..."という箇所は恐らく誤植でしょう。

全米が共和か民主か、赤と青と真っ二つに分かれた選挙戦を終えて、勝利者としてのバイデン氏は今こそ団結すべき時であると、聖書を引き合いに出して訴えています。


The Bible tells us that to everything there is a season — a time to build, a time to reap, a time to sow. And a time to heal.

This is the time to heal in America.

「何事にも時があり」（to everything there is a season）と始まるのは、旧約聖書コヘレトの言葉3章です。

「天の下の出来事にはすべて定められた時がある。」（新共同訳）ということなんですが、"time to heal"というのは、

殺す時、癒す時、破壊するとき、建てる時

という中の「癒す時」に相当しています。

赤と青に分かれて戦った選挙戦は終わり、その戦いで負った傷を癒して、アメリカ国民一丸となって進んでいこうではないか、こんなところでしょうか。

果たして米国は分断から癒えることが出来るでしょうか？
