アメリカ大統領選は、週末の報道によれば、各州の集計結果が出揃い、バイデン氏が選挙人獲得数で過半数を超え、トランプ氏に勝利しました。

一方、トランプ氏は敗北は認めておらず、予てより言及していた投票不正を告発するという姿勢を堅持しています。

しかしながら、トランプ陣営が主張する投票不正は、仮に認定されたとしても選挙結果が覆るほどの影響を及ぼす規模ではないとも言われています。

ワシントンポスト紙の報道によれば、トランプ陣営はペンシルベニア州で提起した訴訟の内容の一部を取り下げたということです。

具体的には、開票状況を監視する権利を認めなかったことが憲法違反であるという主張については取り下げた、ということのようです。

とありますが、この"jettison"という単語はあまりお目にかからない単語だと思います。

実は以前取り上げたことがあるのですが、そもそもの意味は海難事故に際して積み荷等を海上に遺棄することを意味します。

本文中では"scrap"と表現されているところ、記事のタイトルで"jettison"という表現を用いた意図はよく分かりませんが、（一般的な“scrap”に比べて）インパクトを狙った（！？）のかもしれません。

American Heritage Dictionaryでは、Informalな表現ということになっていて、

To discard (something) as unwanted or burdensome

と定義されており、海難事故に限らず用いられる表現ではありますが、トランプ氏の乗っている船はもはや沈みかけているかのようです。
