big girl's blouse
Boris Johnson’s first Prime Minister’s Questions was immediately embroiled in controversy after footage appeared to show him gesticulating towards Jeremy Corbyn, saying: “Call an election, you great big girl’s blouse.”
The theme of the exchanges between the two had centred around the Labour leader asking Johnson to publish details of the government’s no-deal planning documents, while the prime minister repeatedly challenged Corbyn to support his plan for a 15 October election.
As Corbyn was saying of the new prime minister: “He’s desperate, absolutely desperate to avoid scrutiny”, Johnson appeared to make the insult.
(Martin Belam. 'You great big girl’s blouse' – Johnson appears to insult Corbyn during PMQs. The Guardian. September 4, 2019.)
It was immediately seized upon on social media, with users suggesting the comment was sexist and not fitting for the prime minister to say in parliament.
Johnson has form for previously using the phrase. In June 2017 he called Labour’s election campaign chief a “big girl’s blouse”. And in 2007, when Gordon Brown was tipped to be on the verge of calling a general election in an era before the Fixed-Term Parliaments Act, he reportedly told a fringe meeting at the Conservative party conference in Blackpool that if Brown didn’t act: “We will say he’s wimped out, we will say he’s a big girl’s blouse.”

pescetarian
(CNN) — Non-meat diets have soared in popularity with many people ditching beef, pork and chicken in pursuit of health and environmental benefits and concerns about animal welfare.
However, a new study suggests that vegetarians and vegans may be at a higher risk of stroke than their meat-eating counterparts -- although those who don't eat meat have a lower chance of coronary heart disease, according to the new paper, published in the medical journal the BMJ on Wednesday.
(Nina Avramova. Vegetarians might have higher risk of stroke than meat eaters, study says. CNN. September 5, 2019.)
The exact reasons for this higher risk found in vegetarians are not clear, said Tong. It is possible that this is due to "very low cholesterol levels or very low levels of some nutrients," she said.
(ibid.)
No significantly higher rate of stroke for pescetarians
Tong's research team followed more than 48,000 people in UK with an average age of 45, who were grouped into meat eaters (24,428), pescetarians (7,506), and vegetarians, including vegans (16,254). Participants were tracked on average for 18 years and during the study period there were were 2,820 cases of coronary heart disease and 1,072 cases of stroke.
(ibid.)
pescetarian
Merriam-Webster Dictionary

dither
"Let there be no doubt about the consequences of this vote tonight. It means that Parliament is on the brink of wrecking any deal we might be able to strike in Brussels.
"Because tomorrow’s bill would hand control of the negotiations to the EU. And that would mean more dither, more delay, more confusion.
"And it would mean that the EU themselves would be able decide how long to keep this country In the EU.
"And since I refuse to go along with that plan ... we are going to have to make a choice, Mr Speaker. I don’t want an election. The public don’t want an election.
"But if the House votes for this bill tomorrow, the public will have to choose who goes to Brussels on October 17 to sort this out and take this country forward.
(Boris Johnson dealt blow as Brexit rebels vote to seize control. CNN. September 4, 2019.)
And that would mean more dither, more delay, more confusion.
Merriam-Webster Dictionary
a highly nervous, excited, or agitated state

wayの用法 ― way
way too long
way too heavy
Usage Note: Way has long been an intensifying adverb meaning "to a great degree," as in way over budget. This usage is both acceptable and common but has an informal ring. Way is also used as a general intensifier, as in way cool and way depressing. This usage remains a hallmark of casual speech and is not appropriate for formal contexts. · In American English ways is often used as an equivalent of way in phrases such as a long ways to go. This usage is considered nonstandard by most editors, though it appears occasionally in less formal texts.
(American Heritage Dictionary)

run-up
President Donald Trump appeared to be playing golf Saturday, just days before states on the southeast coast were set to be battered by Category 5 Hurricane Dorian, which the National Hurrican Center has called catastrophic.
Official communications from the White House and statements from the president himself ahead of the weekend trip suggested that Trump would be spending his time at Camp David in Maryland monitoring and preparing for the storm.
According to press pool reports, however, Trump traveled to his Sterling, Virginia golf course Saturday morning by helicopter from Camp David. Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham reportedly told reporters that someone from FEMA was briefing him on the hurricane every hour.
(Benjamin Goggin. Video appears to show Trump golfing in Virginia in the run-up to catastrophic Hurricane Dorian. Business Insider. September 1, 2019.)
run-up
Trump golfing in Virginia in the run-up to catastrophic Hurricane Dorian
the period immediately before an action or event
(Merriam-Webster Dictionary)
