ご祝儀泥棒 ― sticky-fingered

唐突ですが、ご祝儀泥棒ってアメリカにもいるんですね。といいますか、結婚式でお祝いに現金を贈るのはアメリカでも普通に行われていることを知りませんでした。New York Post紙からの引用です。

今日取り上げる単語は、"sticky-fingered"という形容詞ですが、文字通りの解釈をすると、べたべたした（sticky）、手指（fingers）ということになります。勿論これは比喩的な表現で、盗癖のある、というのが意味になります。べたついた手には物がくっつきやすいのを、盗みという行為になぞらえたというところでしょうか。

"sticky-fingered"は形容詞ですが、"sticky fingers"、"have sticky fingers"という形もあります。

盗みと関連づけるとちょっとうまく解釈できません。実は、"have sticky fingers"の意味には、盗癖があるというのに加えてもう1つ、特にアメフト競技において、パスを上手に受ける（能力がある）、という意味があるそうですが、上記の引用はその意味で使われています。
