TOKYO -- Japan is poised to start accepting foreign workers for its budding market for housekeeping services under a policy initiative to improve the working environment for women.

The law regulating "special zones" to promote the government's growth strategy was revised in 2015 to allow foreigners to work in the Japanese housekeeping services industry. Many housemaids from the Philippines will start working in the sector early next year.

The government has taken the step to support working women by providing a new way to reduce the burden of household chores.
