ビットコインが高騰 ― gun for

先日の新聞でビットコインの価格が高騰していることを報じていました。

何と今年はじめ1ビットコインは約10万円だったものが、現在100万円近くにまで高騰しているということです。10倍の価格です。

数年前には日本での取引所が突然閉鎖するなど、やはりリスクの大きいオンライン通貨という印象がありましたが、最近では大手家電量販店をはじめとして、一般消費でもキャッシュの代わりに使える通貨として定着を見せており、価格高騰の背景となっているようです。

さて、記事のタイトルで、


Bitcoin Guns For $10,000...


とあるのですが、この"gun for"という表現はあまりお目にかかったことのない表現です。

"gun"は拳銃のことですが、"gun for"という口語表現は、


（地位･賞などを）得ようと必死になる
（ランダムハウス英和辞書）


という意味で使われると載っています。

これは恐らく、前置詞for以下のものを得ようとして銃を突きつける、ということから来ているのだろうと思いますが、そうだとしたら物騒な表現ではあります。
