小生が「クマ出没注意」の看板を初めて見たのは東北地方の山野だった記憶がありますが、実際にクマに遭遇した経験はありません。

もし遭遇したら、果たして落ち着いて行動できるか？と思います。

カリフォルニア郊外のセブンイレブンに突如現れたクマがSNSで話題になっています。

SNSにアップロードされた動画では、クマがコンビニのドアを押して「入店」する様子が映されています。几帳面にも（！？）新型コロナ感染拡大防止の手指消毒液を使っているようにも見えます。

ちなみに引用した記事の冒頭の"bear necessity"は、"bare necessity"にかけたしゃれですね。

"bear"を表現する別の単語に、

bruin

があります。

オランダ語では茶色（brown）を意味しますが、これは児童向けの絵本に出てくるクマの名前に使われる単語で、元は中世の動物物語Reynard the Fox（邦題：狐物語）から来ているそうです。

フランス語でrenardが狐を意味するように、Bruinは普通名詞化してクマを意味する単語になりました。

狐物語に馴染みがない人には、クマのプーさん（Winnie the Pooh）の方が身近でしょうか。
