新型コロナワクチンの接種義務化は推進するバイデン政権に対して、共和党の反発が激しくなっていますが、フロリダ州では接種義務化を違法とする州法が成立しました。

その州法の中身というのは、従業員に接種を強制する企業等には罰金を科すといったもので、これまでに類を見ない内容となっています。

引用したCNNの記事では、パンデミックが如何に政争の具と化しているかを示すものだと報じています。

さて、同じくCNNから、約1週間前の記事ですが、同じくワクチン接種義務化を話題とした記事では以下のようなくだりとなっています。

パンデミックが如何に政争の具と化しているか、については、民主、共和両党がこの問題を梃に支持層を拡げようとしているという見方です。

記事のタイトルに、

という表現が使われています。

記事中にも度々出てくる、"base"という単語は政策や政党をサポートする「支持基盤」を指していると思われます。

その支持基盤を"fire up"する、というのは具体的にどう訳すのがふさわしいでしょうか。

"fire"という動詞には火をつけるという意味があります。英和辞書に"fire up (one's) base"という表現を取り上げたものは見当たりませんでしたが、この表現は似たようなコンテクストで（つまり、政治の話題で）よく使われるようです。（コーパスでは多数の用例がヒットします。）

この記事でもタイトル部分で使われているのですが、暴動事件を思い起こすに、「（火を）焚きつける」といった和訳がぴったりくるように思われます。

「扇動する」と言っても良いかもしれません。

個人的にはワクチンの効果は絶大と思うところです。サイエンスを政治問題にしてしまうのは誰の所為でしょうか。
