アメリカ国内で経済格差がますます広がっている模様です。インフレや物価高の影響によるものですが、食料品を十分に買う余裕の無い世帯が増加しているとの統計があるようです。公的機関による食料品の支給を求める家庭は増加しており、富める者はますます富み、貧しい者はますます貧しくなっていくという、いわゆるK-shaped economyが現実のものとなっているというものです。

An increasing number of American households have struggled to afford enough food since 2020 because of rising economic strains, according to an analysis released by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York on Wednesday. 

“We find a remarkable increase in food insecurity, particularly among lower-educated and lower-income households and households with young children,” the economists wrote. 

The report, which was based on the results of the New York Fed’s monthly survey of consumer expectations, found a significant increase in people who said they dipped into their savings from June 2020 to February 2026. This margin was even more pronounced for nonwhite households or those with children.
