click

A brief, sharp, nonresonant sound

the click of a door latch

(AHD: To become clear; fall into place)

"If you can't come up with new ideas, you don't belong here, " says senior Paul Kirley, who in five years has designed bathroom scales, lamps, helmets, and toilets. " They can't teach creativity, but they can help you harness it and shape your ideas on a professional level." Some ideas click right away, he says, " like the guy who said it would be cool to have a motorcycle in water and invented Jet skis. "

Gruden knew that Gannon, being wooed by other teams, had concerns about the Raiders. So he played to Gannon's no-nonsense style. "We went to dinner at some Mexican joint, and, on the way, back, we stopped at a 7-Eleven, and he bought a six-pack of beer, and we came back to the facility and sat in his office for three hours and watched film," Gannon says. "I knew right then." "I felt we clicked right away," Gruden says. "I had never been around a guy that passionate about playing. " The two were in Gruden's office until 1 a.m. Gruden showed Gannon tapes of Raiders games and practices to prove the team was headed in the right direction. But Gannon, who turns 35 next week, was in search of much more.
