マラソンは人生の縮図（５） ― marathon

早いものでもう金曜日です！今週のテーマ、マラソンの表現も5日目を迎えました。

最後に取り上げる単語としてはどうかなとも思ったのですが、テーマでもある"marathon"に落ち着きました。

言うまでもなく、マラソンの由来は古代ギリシャにおいて、戦争の勝利を伝える伝令役がマラトン（Marathon）の地からアテネの地までの約42キロを走ったことに因みます。マラソンの42.195キロという距離は30キロでもなく、35キロでもなく、はたまた40キロでもなく、人間の限界を少し超えたところにある絶妙な距離であるという気がします。

さて、マラソンが長距離、長時間のレースであることから、非常に長い時間をかけて行われることを表現するのに"marathon"が使われることがあります。
