テニスにあまり詳しくありませんが、オーストラリアにトップ選手が集結しているようですね。

世界四大大会のほとつ、全豪オープンという選手権が開催中のようです。

取り上げたかったのは、記事の中ほどにある、

the 4,000 crowd sat cheek by jowl 

という部分です。

"jowl"というのは、顎、特に下あご、という意味です。

そして、"cheek by jowl"は、ぴたりと密接して、という意味の成句です。

頬（cheek）と顎（jowl）という、部位的に近接している名称を並べているということで、意味合いは納得です。

パンデミックの最中、そんなに密接して大丈夫なのか！？とは思います。
