日本でもクロックスという名称は“ツッカケ”の代名詞みたいになっています。

そのクロックスですが、パンデミック下で売上が伸びているらしく、同社の株価も上昇中ということです。

Crocs shares soared to an all-time high on Tuesday, goosed by an upbeat sales forecast as the coronavirus has led to an epidemic of people lounging around the house.

The famously ugly clogs — which have been called the “it” shoe of the pandemic — are on track to increase revenues by an eye-popping 50 percent this year, the company said on Tuesday.

取り上げたかったのは、"goose"という表現です。

ガチョウを意味する"goose"ですが、ここでは動詞で使われています。

辞書を引くまで知りませんでしたが、刺激する、強める、活力を与える、という意味で用いられる俗語表現だそうです。

何でガチョウがそのような意味になるのか？

小学生の頃を思い出して、思わず笑ってしまいますが・・・。

ガチョウの口先から連想される「親指の先」は、洋の東西を問わず（！？）、「カンチョウ！」（お尻に指先を突き立てる行為）に使われ、故に、「刺激する」、の意味だとか。

手元にあるOxford Dictionary of Euphemismにもエントリーがあり、以下のような解説があります。

goose to pinch the buttocks of.

A male sexual approach as delicate as a nip from the bird’s beak — or as indelicate.

これ以外にも、goose（=duck）がf - - -と韻を踏むことから、性行為の意味合いでも用いられるということです。
