ところで引用した部分で、

"bowser"という単語を知りませんでしたが、これはガソリンスタンドの給油ポンプのことを指すオーストラリア、ニュージーランド特有の表現だそうです。

そして、一般名詞化したこの単語は、ガソリンとオイルの貯蔵システムを製造するS.F. Bowser社の名前にちなむ（ランダムハウス英和辞書）のだそうです。

さらに、この社名ですが、検索してみると、S.F. Bowserは人の名前です。

Sylvanus Freelove Bowser（1854 - 1938）は、アメリカの発明家で、自動車の燃料ポンプを発明した人物だそうです。
