周辺諸国も巻き込んだ複雑な地政学上の均衡が崩れようとするのを見るようですが、イスラエルと友好関係にあるアメリカ国内ではハマスの動きを事前に察知できていなかったのかという疑問の声が上がっているようです。

物事に集中して取り組む、という意味で用いられることもあるようです。そして、ボールから目を離す、ということの反対は「ボールから目を離さない」であり、

keep one’s eye on the ball

となります。
