冒頭で、”Lotharios”とありますが、これは人の名前”Lothario”の複数形です。
このロサリオさんがどういう人かというと、英語では「女たらし」ということになっています。
“Lothario”は、Nicholas Roweという作家による戯曲”Fair Penitent”の登場人物だそうですが、所謂イケメンで女性を誑かす男として描かれた人物でした。
この戯曲以降、ロサリオなる人物像が女たらしとして定着していったと、Merriam-Websterの解説にあります。

影武者？ ― body double
トランプ米大統領が公の場に姿を現す際に付き添う、ファーストレディーのメラニア夫人について、実はホンモノそっくりの影武者ではないかという噂がツイッターで広がっているそうです。
In the beginning, first lady Melania Trump was mocked for her absence from the White House. Then she was criticized for her clothes and her shoes. On Wednesday some conspiracy theorists on Twitter were convinced she wasn't even Melania — she's a body double!
Soon after a tweet asserting this was posted, the reaction tweets were off to the races as jokesters, paranoids, gif-makers and Trump supporters vied with one another to make the case, knock it down or just have a good time posting clever pictures and videos.
More proof that startling numbers of people on Twitter have way too much time on their hands? For the record, there is no Melania Trump body double, but that didn't stop the blathering about it.

メラニア夫人のケースに戻りますと、ツイッター上ではサングラスをかけて大統領に寄り添うメラニア夫人を細かく画像分析して全く別人としているものなどで盛り上がっているそうです。
このような”body double”の疑惑は今回に限った話ではなく、過去には昨年の大統領選の最中のヒラリー・クリントン氏について同様の疑惑が持ち上がったこともありました。

pigskin
アメリカンフットボールのことを俗に"pigskin"というそうです。
初めて知ったのですが、以下の記事がきっかけです。
The number of pigskin fans in the US plummeted from 67 percent in 2012 to 57 percent this year, according to a Gallup poll taken Oct. 10-11.
It was the biggest drop in support of any sport and follows the heated controversy over football players kneeling in protest during the National Anthem.
Republicans and independent voters led the defectors — down 15 and 12 points respectively. Backing from Democrats fell just 3 points.
“The anthem situation is the latest, but not the only, controversy that has dogged professional football. In recent years, the NFL has come under fire for its handling of domestic violence cases involving players and its response to research on the effects of concussions on brain health among former players,” the Gallup analysis said.

fornicate
本日の記事は成人向けの内容です。
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — A man and a woman were caught having sex in a bathroom at a Tennessee nightclub last week, police said.

トイレで性行為に及んでいたカップルが逮捕されたという話なのですが、記事中、
...having sex in a bathroom...
とありますが、別の箇所では、
... had been fornicating in the restroom...
とあり、この”fornicate”という単語が気になりました。
辞書を引くと、「姦通する」とあります。これは単に”having sex”ではなく、行為の不義性を意味していますが、語源をたどると”fornicate”とは売春婦と交わることを指していたということが分かります。
この”fornicate”という単語はラテン語のfornixから来ているそうですが、fornixとは丸天井の地下室（vaulted cellar）のことで、昔の売春宿というのはこのような場所が典型的であったことに因むようです。

股割り ― splits
いわゆる「股割り」というものができるようになりたいという人は結構いるのでしょうか、最近は誰でも簡単にベターッと開脚できるようになる～、みたいなタイトルの本が書店の売上ランキングで紹介されていたりします。
私も股割りができるような体の柔らかさには驚嘆しますが、いろいろ柔軟体操やストレッチを試みたものの、とても股割りができるようにはなりません。
さて、「股割り」のことを英語で何というのか、という疑問を持っていたわけではないのですが、たまたま以下のような記事に出くわしました。
The high school cheerleading coach who forced his students into splits will not be charged with a crime, the Denver prosecutor said.
A number of officials at East High School in Denver came under fire in August when a disturbing video circulated showing cheerleaders repeatedly being pushed into splits.
An incoming high school freshman screamed in pain and asked the coach, Ozell Williams, to “please stop” in one video. Her morther said she suffered injuries to her leg from the forced exercise.
The leaked video caused a public uproar. The school’s principal retired and the athletic director resigned after the video was leaked; Williams was fired.

「股割り」、つまり開脚してベターッと床に胸をつけることを英語では、"splits"というようです。
ちゃんと辞書にも載っていまして、ランダムハウス英和辞書では、"splits"のエントリがあり、"s"がついていますが、単数扱いとなっています。
アメリカの高校でチアリーディング部の女の子に股割りを無理強いして怪我をさせた指導者が訴えられたというニュースですが、有罪にはならなかったようです。
股割りというと相撲で入門したての力士が親方や先輩力士から無理矢理押さえつけられてやらされている映像というのをテレビで見たことがありますが、あんな感じでしごかれたのでしょうか。
訴えられた指導者には件のベストセラーを読んでほしかったですね。
