先週末、トランプ大統領は韓国における米韓合同軍事演習を削減すると発言し、ヘグセス国防長官に指示したと報じられています。イランとの戦争に対する韓国の支援が不十分だとの不満がその背景にあるとも言われていますが、思い起こしてみると、似たようなロジックで同盟国に対する“脅し”とも取れる発言をしてきたことから、今回も果たしてどこまで本気なのか不可解なところもあります。

しかしながら、38度線を境に接する北朝鮮の脅威は高まるばかりで、韓国政府では動揺が拡がっているともされます。トランプ氏はまた、北朝鮮の金正恩総書記を持ち上げる発言もしており、韓国にとっては困ったことになりました。

とのくだりがあり、"hand in glove"という慣用表現が使われています。手元にあるCollins Cobuild Dictionary of Idiomsでは、

If one person or organization is working hand in glove with another person or organization, they are working very closely together.

と説明されています。手袋と手は密着しますから、それくらい密接に行動を共にしている、一体となって協働している、ということの比喩ですね。

ところで、Collinsの説明には、

You usually use this expression to suggest that the people you are talking about are doing something dishonest or immoral.

との補足説明もされており、どちらかというと悪い意味合いで使われるようです。以下のような例文が添えられています。

つまり、癒着という日本語に近いニュアンスですね。
