今日は"cultural appropriation"という言葉を取り上げたいと思います。

日本語では、文化の盗用とか文化侵奪などと訳される概念ですが、他国や他民族の文化を自国や自民族のものであるかのように取り扱うことを指します。

最初に引用する記事はアメリカの女性ラップミュージシャンが黒人英語のアクセントを真似たものが批判を浴び、謝罪に追い込まれたというものです。

Awkwkafina responded to longstanding criticism that she uses a fake "blaccent" in her comedy while announcing that she’s retiring from Twitter. 

The "Shan-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" star, who was born Nora Lum, has long-faced criticism for her use of African-American Vernacular English (AAVE). Some have spoken out on social media to accuse the actress of doing a voice that’s a caricature of a Black person in order to be funny.

黒人英語と書きましたが、African-American Vernacular English (AAVE) とかEbonicsと呼ばれるもので、米南部など、奴隷貿易時代の文化背景を持つ地域に見られる、特徴的なアクセントや語法、表現などが見られるものを指します。

女性が滑稽さを醸し出す目的で敢えて黒人英語のアクセントを真似たのではないかと、かねてより批判的に見られていたところ、本人はそのような意図は無かったと否定しながらも、批判を受けて活動を一部自粛すると表明しました。

たまたまですが、"cultural appropriation"の話題がありますので、もう一件、別の記事を引用します。

こちらは先週開幕した北京冬季オリンピックの開会式の演出に関する記事です。

小生もネットで中継を見ておりましたので記憶にあります。中国国旗を掲揚する際の演出で、掲揚台に向けて運ぶ男性、女性らが様々な衣装に身を包んでいました。民族の多様性を演出したものでしたが、その衣装に韓服（記事中はhanbok; 具体的にはチマチョゴリ）が含まれていました。

韓国政府が"cultural appropriation"だと猛反発したものです。

"cultural appropriation"における、"appropriation"という単語は横領とか私物化という意味もあることはご存知かと思います。本来自分のものではないものを、自分のものであるかのように主張することです。

今回取り上げた事例はいずれも演出のアイデアのオリジナリティが問われているものだろうと思います。
