唐突ですが、"mukbang"という単語をご存知でしょうか？

小生は聞くのも見るのも初めてです。きっかけは以下引用するニューヨークポスト紙の記事でした。

Mayor Zohran Mamdani did a “mukbang”-style livestream video — munching on Taco Bell and Dunkin’ — to announce an $1.5 million settlement against franchises of the fast food giants Tuesday.

The democratic socialist mayor and his Department of Consumer and Worker Protections Commissioner Sam Levine detailed the deal while scarfing down Crunchwrap Supremes, Baja Blasts, Munchkins and a Mexican-style pizza during a YouTube livestream.

Mukbang is a popular YouTube format where hosts eat large amounts of food while discussing topics.

記事に解説がありますが、"mukbang"というのは食べ物をテーマにした動画配信を指す言葉だそうです。

YouTubeなどを見ていると、食べ物をテーマにlした動画が多いですね。ラーメン屋とか爆盛りのお店とかの動画が流れてきますが、料理を作って食べるだけの動画なんかもあり、どれも食欲がそそられるものがあります。（いわゆる"food porn"ですね。）

Merriam-Webster Dictionary（オンライン版）ではこの"mukbang"という単語を載せており、以下のように解説しています。

Mukbang refers to a video shared on social media in which the creator films themselves eating large quantities of food, and often provides a review of the food as well. Mukbang can also refer to the genre of such videos.

また、"mukbang"は韓国語であり、食べるという意味のmeokと放映を意味するbangのかばん語だそうです。

The word comes from the Korean meokbang, which is a portmanteau of that language's words for “eating” (meok) and “broadcasting” (bang-song).

スペルは"meokbang"とする場合もあるようです。
