常套手段 ― playbook

たまたまですが、2つの記事の見出しで"playbook"という単語が目に留まりました。

1つ目は以下です。

"playbook"という単語に注意を払ったことはありませんでしたが、こうして2つの記事で使われているのを見るとそれがきっかけになって理解が深まるというものです。

"playbook"をランダムハウス英和辞書で引くと、


台本、脚本
ゲームのやり方を解説した本
（アメフト）チームが行う連係プレーや作戦を図解付きで記したノート
（商業的、政治的キャンペーンのための）計画・戦術


などとありました。

引用した記事での用例はいずれも、“計画・戦術”といった意味合いで使われていると解釈できますが、"playbook"という表現には"plan"や"strategy"では置き換えることができないようなニュアンスを感じます。これは記事のコンテクストも関係しているのでしょうが、そもそも"playbook"が演劇の台本を意味していたことと無関係ではないのではないかと思います。

舌鋒鋭い大統領候補のDonald Trump氏にしろ、威嚇や恫喝で諸外国との緊張を高めることばかりに長けている北朝鮮の指導者にしろ、その"playbook"には、いつものアレ、というような意味合いが見え隠れします。

ある意味、常套手段、と言ってもいいのかもしれません。
